Hi guru's

I live in Pune, India and have have a 2001 fiat uno
It has a 1242cc SPFI engine, churning 62 Bhp @ 5700 rpm, and 9.4kgm @3200 rpm. The 145/80R13 tyres came as standard.
It has done 70,000kms and is in excellent condition.

Now I am thinking of a possibility of a midlife upgrade.
Could you please let me know the effects of replacing the current SPFI
engine with the Palio's MPFI engine (and ECU),
1) The 1242cc (72bhp@6000rpm and 10.4 kgm@3250 rpm) OR
2) The 1.6ltr (100bhp@5500rpm and 14kgm@4250rpm)

Question:
would I need to modify my gear box as well?
would it give me better mileage than it does on the palio?

Second if I replace my R13 tyres with R14 would it cause any issues?

Hi mqsash,

Sounds good!
Sometimes I wish our Unos were five years old...

If you go with the 1242cc MPI ugrade, the gearbox shouldn't need to be changed. If you fit a 1.6 motor, I think the gearbox is different (but it depends which 1.6 motor FIAT have used. 100bhp is a good output for a 1.6).

I think you're right to consider a tyre upgrade straight away; 13" 155/70 would be a standard size, 175/60 13 is a good choice (being what the Uno Turbo used).

14" wheels would demand unusual-sized tyres: perhaps 175/55 14.
see http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html and the Tyre Size Calculator.

Would the mileage be better? I doubt there would be much difference. The Palio might be better for high-speed cruising, but for all other driving, no...

I like the idea of fitting the MPI system onto your existing engine, with a camshaft change as well. But it might be quite a lot of work for 10bhp.
