Hi have just purchased a multipla and the fob key has set the alarm and now stopped working, any advice on how we can disable the alarm to keep using the car with just the keys

Think there may be a key in the left hand dashboard cubby, the airbag ones are in the right. Did you get a small key with the car?

HI we only got the one blue key with the car and i will have a look in that cubby hole though, i have seen the one in the drivers door. The problem we have is that the alarm has armed itself and so everytime we go into the car the alarm sounds! So everything has to be done with speed. Fiat have qouted £240 for a new car but that is almost a quarter of what we paid for the car so we are trying to see if we can disable the alarm, thanks for your help

Sorry to ask this, but sometime the easy things are forgotten...have you tryed to change battery on fob?? Or open fob up and see if there is any broken pieces?? I had similar issue with my old alfa v6 and the switch was broken and i bought a working key from ebay and welded switch to my and the job was done!!

hi
yes we have tried to change battery and the key has been looked at by Fiat who say the microswitch is actually broken and so the key needs replacing, but it is a £200+ bill we also cannot use the car until this is replaced which could take up to 10 days. Might look into replcing the switch another way, we are hoping there is a way to silence the alarm so we can drive the car and use the key in the locks

Most auto-electricians will solder in a new micro-switch for a fraction of the cost Fiat want. Try ringing around, it's a fairly common fault.

Thanks I had thought about finding a key in a breakers yard and transferring the circuit board to our key, then it should just be reprogrammed by Fiat, if this is possible

Hey mate, not sure if you're still looking for an answer or if this is any help but i found this in the copy of the manual i have....

HOW TO DEACTIVATE THE ALARM
To switch the alarm off, press the remote control
button on the key.
In countries where admitted by law regulations, the
system is preset for an emergency procedure to be
carried out when the alarm does not turn off (due to
flat remote control battery or system fault):
❒ open the door after unlocking the lock with the key,
❒ fit the key into the ignition switch,
❒ turn the key to MAR.
To reactivate the alarm after the emergency
procedure, turn the key to STOP and remove it. Then,
press twice the remote control button: first press will
re-align the system (this because the last operation for
excluding the alarm was performed using the key and
not the remote control), the second press will
reactivate the alarm.

Not sure what countries this applies to but changing the country programmed is easy, search this forum and you'll find how to do that if you need to. If that works just skip the 'reactivate' bit and save yourself getting that key fixed. Much as i love my uglybug i doubt there is much need for it to be alarmed :D

Thanks, have resorted to ordering new key from Fiat, as the alarm now only sounds once the key is turning the ignition, we can get in and out of the car fine just not drive it!!! Saving a fortune in petrol
