Hey,
I came back after not using my fiat doblo maxi 2014 multijet 1.3 diesel van for a few weeks. The central locking does not work. Replaced batteries in keys. Still nothing.

Assuming battery is dead. The key doesn't work manually when used in driver door. Doesn't open from passenger side. Before this I have never tried to open the van with the key since I bought the van. So might be the key never worked.

So I can't get into the van to pop the bonnet to replace the battery. I jacked up the van to look underneath to see if I can pop the bonnet from underneath. Didn't manage to do it.

Anyone know how to open the bonnet without being able to get inside the van! I tried a few of the cables underneath but nothing.

What solution is there? Need to use van to check in my mum so can't wait for a new key. Can I open the bonnet myself or will a mechanic be able to open the bonnet easily enough from the side of the road?

Thanks for any help.

Hi..

With CARE you can do this :)

You need jumpleads.. a jack or two and axle.stands-ramps

Elevate the front end.. one side supported in 2 spots should be enough

Then a Red jump lead onto the starter motors Red cable ( the other end of the starter cable is on the Positive battery terminal ) ;)

A Black jumplead onto engine metal.. or the Earth Cables on Gearbox to Chassis area ( this wil make a circuit with the Battery Negative terminal) :)

Now carefully connect your Red and Black cable ends to a 12v power source.. that will now power the locks
:)

Do be VERY careful.. make sure its NOT IN GEAR..?? If it is.. its a sensible precausion to make sure wheels cannot 'drive'.. removing them could be safest IF the car is well supported

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if it is in gear at moment. If it is, I won't be able to get inside to change gear.

Basically, get the electrics back on so you can use central locking with keys and get inside and pop bonnet and replace battery.

Otherwise is there a way to open from underneath or through the front grill.

If I don't manage, I will get mechanic to come by and all this information will be useful to relay to them

Thanks

Bonnet is usually tricky

Stuck in gear..
Not a disaster.. but you need to be wary of doing something odd and cranking the starter.. if its in gear.. with wheels on the ground.. it could roll

As I said.. remove front wheels if in any doubt

Once youve connected under car.. you can retreat to a safe distance to power with 12volts and use your remote key

If it has towing socket look up which pin may be permanent 12v live and power up the van that way to unlock.
Look online how to get into your car if locked out ie shoe lace, coat hanger, packing strip etc

Possibly key door lock stuck due to lack of use , spray wd40 repeatedly insert/remove key. Wiggle key while attempting to turn.

Thanks for replies. Will see cost with locksmith tomorrow morning.
