Hmmm... interesting! I have been doing 2.1 Bar (30ish PSI) normal and 2.3 Bar (33ish PSI) laden with the 16vt wheels. On the 1.6 this was ok but think the heavier JTD probably needs the extra air :idea:

Well you do have the best wheels on the best Stilo so you just need the best pressure for them

Interestingly I noticed that the car was feeling a bit loose at the front round roundabouts. Now usually I check my tyre pressures every five seconds cos I always think that they're low. Recently I've been trying to be less paranoid hence not checking every five minutes.

None the less found the front pair had dropped to 30/31 so pumped them back up to 35 and hey presto loose feeling gone.

Bear in mind this is with my Flaken 512s. Other tyres with stiffer sidewalls will almost certainly behave differently.

If you look at the "recommended" tyre pressure chart for Stilos on 16s it says 2.1bar for the ENTIRE Stilo range. The JTDs and Abarths are over 300lbs heavier than the 1.2. You don't need to be a scientist to see that can't work

Yes, I notice that Fiat only increase pressures for the wider tyres (presumably a comfort thing).

The heavier engines would increase the load on the front tyres and thus increase the footprint which in turn provides more grip. You could argue that's not such a bad thing!

At the end of the day, it's fine to experiment as long as you only make gradual changes and keep in mind that higher tyre pressure will generally offer less grip.

Well there you go, one of the causes of outside edge wear is under pressure tyres in corners.

Good point Decks The only other thing I would add is that the 16vt Coupe wheels increase the Stilo's track by an inch or so but wheels are half inch narrower so its all a bit of trial and error... the Acceleras also have a higher load and speed rating along with reinforced side walls and rim protectors, this sidewall stiffness is probably why my car re-tracks itself on potholes :bang:

Fancy Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's next... only worried that they may be a bit soft compound wise... also intrigued by nitrogen filling and the claims made for it...

From what I've heard you'll be pumping them up every five minutes as the nitrogen escapes much quicker than normal air.

I have mine filled with nitrogen and been good so far. (3 Months).

On Dunlop Sport Maxx: one of mine went "kaput" with a cut in the shoulder, damage beyond repair and not under warranty.
Worst no local dealer carries the Sport Maxx so I had to change two tyres for another brand! :bang:

I have always used 2.3 bar which is around 34 psi that help ?

i use 2.3 bar just as pnl does, never have eny problems..

No uneven tyre wear at all. Works very well. I have 15" on the Stilo, so using 2.7 does not make it uncomfortable. It's just more stable.

You're not serious?!!

If that tyre is not supposed to be on 2.7, then you have grip problem in speed. While the wheel is turning, the tyre and air inside are being affected by centrifugal force, and therefore thy tyre touches with less rubber the asfalt then is it supposed to.

I wouldn't play arround with my safety like this.

Dangerous joke my friend... It does make you more stable, but when parking a car.

Our friend Morty needs a lessions in physics.

I wouldn't have played with my safety like that. It's not a digital camera with which you won't hurt anybody if use it with no reading the manual.

Safety is not a joke. Different tires (even if the size is the same) require different air pressure.

This is the pressure I was recommended to have by the Continental seller. And I don't drive these tires during winter. That is a bad idea. My winter tyres have 2.2 bar.

But ofcourse, if everyone accuses me for being an idiot here, I might reconsider deflating the tyre to 2.5 perhaps? And also: I am rarely alone in the car. It's full most of the time with familiy members and bits and bobs.

Going by the fiat hand book on a fully loaded car the tyre pressure should be 2.7 bar on the front and 2.5 on the rears so who's the idiot now not you it would seem
