Just had two Toyos fitted to front, still going through fronts every 10k, wear on inside! Been aligned countless times!

Is it unusual for a tyre not to have a balancing weight on it? They have put a small one on one side, but nothing on the other?

Thanks

it is unusual as tires are by definition egg shaped (due to a limitation of the manufacturing process). However, it is feasible that, if there is a balance problem with the rim and the tire has managed to offset it perfectly, it did not need any weights.. this won't cause your inner wear though and you can easily tell if balance is ok.. just get up to 70 mph..

do a search regarding the alignment (geometry) been covered a million times.. am not posting it again :p 10 k is not too bad though ;)

Yeah to be honest modern tyres ain't what they used to be, they don't last anything like as long, that said they also grip much better lol.

In 60,000miles I had 15" Dunlops, 17" Falkens, 17"runways, 17" Autoguards! And now I've just had decent (finally after a couple of skint years) 17" Avons.

If I remember correctly the Dunnies lasted abour 20k, the Falkens 18k, Runways 12k, Autoguards the remaining 10k and still had about 3mm tread when I got shot of them because the understeer was scary in the wet.

I doubt the Avons will last much over 15k as they are very grippy!

From what I've heard Toyos are extremely grippy, and that folk use them up in typically about 10k.

What model of Stilo do you have and what sized wheels?

If you get wobble then your balance is out, but that won't be whats wearing the inside edge! Its gotta be tracking surely thats causing that! Driving too hard tends to wear out the outside shoulder, as does bent tie bar (as seen on many mini's that have been carelessly jacked up by the lower tiebar at kwikfit).

With a 1.4 I'd assume your not spanking your car either! And beside it would be outside of the wheel!

Ever considered a more durable brand of tyre?

Try a 4 wheel laser tracking set up rather than the usual method, might cost a bit more but its worth it.

Been out got over 70mph no wobble!! Must be a perfectly balanced wheel/tyre with no weights needed?!

Whats a more durable brand? Always had Dunlop Sports on it before as that is what it came with. The Toyos had good reviews and came in at £40 each!

I got 42K out of my Enduros on my 1.2. . It must be the tracking, but check your lower links are not worn and that your tracking man is not setting tracking without noticing the wear. (a favourite KF trick).
The lower link wear is not always easy to see. You need to take the weight of the whole suspension and shake the wheel, better still get a mate to shake the wheel and you look for the movement.
My track rod adjustments corroded pretty badly so make sure the boys are really doing the job and not giving up because its too difficult.

When I first bought the MW, front tyres only lasted about 14k, had the 4 wheel alignment and was told the rear beam was way out. Had it replaced under warranty and since then my last set of front tyres - Avons, lasted 36k. I had Avons on my previous Marea and put them on the Stilo because price is good, grip suits my style of driving and road noise is a lot lower than the Dunlops originally fitted.

Have to say most of my driving is on the A14 and I rarely go over 70mph to or from work, a fair bit more if I forget I'm not on a German Autobahn:D but thats only about once a month. So increased tyre life equals driving at low speed in a straight line, we need a mathematician now to come up with the formula.
