Technical TwinAir OIL consumption..??

Yellow card on oil consumption on my Panda 4x4 TA. It is empty after only 5k miles from brand new. I agree on comments on useless dipstick. I looked at mine shortly after purchase and it looked like it was only half full but assumed dealers would have done their job properly. I have had to fill up with my own oil to keep it running until service which is due shortly. I tend to drive fast so that may be it?
Full engines often look empty TAKE CARE not to overfill as a result. My dipstick repels oil. My TA only uses oil if driven for prolonged periods at 90mph. Other than that not a drop.

Re having difficulty reading the dipstick, I have a solution that works very well. In the evening remove the dipstick and stuff the filler with a CLEAN rag or cloth. Clean down the dipstick with washing up liquid to remove excess oil and dry. Insert dipstick vertically in to a fresh bottle of bleach such as Domestos or the like, leave it somewhere safe overnight and voila, you'll have a clean easy to read version in the morning - make sure you rinse and dry well before reinserting in engine! It should last a good while too before a repeat clean is necessary.

It doesn't shut the engine off but sounds a beep and 'low oil pressure - turn off engine' is displayed on the dash. I'm a little worried about mine as when I checked the dipstick at 1000km there was only a trace of oil at the very bottom, the 'Lego Technic' dipstick doesn't seem to be the easiest to read.
Mine cut out at a roundabout the other day turns out low oil leavel and the dip stick is totally weird would be handy if someone put a picture on of were we think the level should be

TA dip stick is dangerously useless. I made my own with an old coat hanger and it works. Cleaning the cars dipstick with carb cleaner pre use helps. There is plenty to search on here

So..... do you screw the cap down til it clicks (on the TA), or just insert til it hits the threads?
We figured this out 🙂

In 85k covered my punto has always been until it clicks,
after services at Fiat, Fiat Specialists and a couple of regular garages, the level has always been good.

Pleased to say I used a "hard break-in" after all the early threads regarding oil consumptiin

It uses no oil between services, and is Hugely powerful compared to my other TA's that I bought "lightly used"

.... Well I don't doubt that works, but at a service stop at night, in the rain on the motorway it does really prove the point that someone in the TA engine design department should be FIRED. (and in apprentice speak not 'with regret')

I never make it click for checking, as the post, or was it two posts about broken dip sticks says no more clicking than required. Just screw down closed so the washer sits on the engine top. Its easier anyway. If you dont screw the cap down it will appear emty when full as the thred almost matches the distance between full and empty on the dip stick.

I wouldnt say I used a hard break in, but more just normal without using the the top end of the rev range. I did 600 mile trip in two days on days 2 and 3. Mine uses no oil at all unless I drive on motorways in the outside lane for long stretches. Then it sups a little maybe 200 cc in 500 miles of autobahn motoring.

I've always just screwed the cap down till it touches - no clicks. Once finished I tighten it to just one click only, any more and I have to take pliers to it to open when cold. 🙃
Mee too just the same. That cap feels a bit brittle to me.

With today's super thin oils, try to keep the dipstick vertical after removing it. If you turn it on its side, oil can flow along the dipstick and give you a false reading.
Good point, if the dip stick has ANY oil on it though. They could market that plastic as oil repellant material! But you are right even with the steel measuring stick its a very good point.
