General Twin air oil leak

Eh up all,

My 2016 TA cross 4x4 has developed an engine oil leak

I noticed it last night when washing the car and sure enough parked it in the garage and there is engine oil drip on the floor.

Need to remove the sump guard today but anyone else had this problem :bang:

My 2007 4x4 had an oil leak and it was the main output shaft bearing seal which fortunately was done under warranty - mines out now

Anyone any experience of this happening on there’s, semi confident I can find it as reasonably competent with mechanics but all advice welcome. As usual will keep this thread updated with progress.

I really like this car only hope it’s a cheap fix ( unlikely I know)

Well been under the car today and got the attached photos, got a vid too but cannot fathom how to load it up :bang:

Im hoping that the leak is engine oil ( smells like it ) and not anything else. Looks like its from the sump seal to the engine block, the RTV could be giving way and allowing it to seep. Im not happy as its a 66 plate with less than 10K on it - but hey ho.

I cleaned of the oil which i think had tracked back to the bottom of the gearbox housing which is why its on there, theres no sign of a gearbox seal leak or from the outer halfshaft seals - here praying:worship:

Then ran the car for over 40 minutes on the ramp in the garage and ......NOWT....not a bl88dy sign of a weep

Could be that it not got hot enough or in motion with higher oil pressure, want to determine it is definatley the sump, but could not see anything else.

Hope yo can fathom out the photos - shots are from under the car at the drivers side, sump, transfer gearbox case, and front sump to engine block.

would welcome any thoughts on this as its clearly going to get worse which it might have to do before i can pin point the actual problem

Anyone stripped a sump off the TA 4x4 ?

Did the daughters 500 and that was a %$*£ of a job, half the bl88d5 drive system and engine needed to be moved, this looks alot easier.

Not sure on photos.

Can you rule out spillages from a recent oil change?

Worth pulling off top plastic shroud.. to see if anything is evidently dribbling.


Has the level moved at all?

Eh up,

Yep - I did the last oil change myself absolutely no spillages .

No shift in the oil level at all - it’s a definite weep though, just not a drip if that makes sense.

Might try and get the vid up.

I need to think this one through more - will look on the 500 section as well to see if anything on there.

I want it fixed but it might have to get worse first before being able to pin point the area.

I’m edging my bets on a sump seal - read praying - as it’s an easier fix for me without going to the dealer.

Hi TTR

Ive put together many 850 engines over the years or just taken the sump off for a good clean, i find that after some use the 20 odd bolts need tightening by about 3/4 turn each just to reseal the sump, this may have been the case with yours, or something similar

Have to agree.. its virtually a constant

Mine is sweating oil.
It’s the distribution cover over the timing chain.

That's not the sump leaking.

If you look carefully at the top two images you posted, you can see a drip on the bracket for the cat, so it's coming from higher up.

If you run a direct line up above that bracket you get to the join between the block and timing chain chest.

You can see the bracket just below the left hand exhaust port and the join to the chest directly to the left of the same port in the image below.

Thanks for that, been under car again this morning, as I cleaned up the oil in order to try and trace it over the next week or so it’s difficult to see now. I tried getting further up behind the CAT but hands too big and space too small!

Tried from the top too and took off the engine cover but no luck - too many pipes and cables to see properly

Will see if I can get the phone in there somehow and take pictures.

Will be pi88ed off big time if it’s as you pointed out.

Cannot fathom out why it’s seems to have just started or maybe as it appears to be a weep it’s just one of those things.

That's the problem mine TwinAir is showing, a "very" expensive repair, half the engine has to be disassembled for it.

How long you had the weep?

Very interesting yours is showing the same signs.

What miles have you got on and age of car?

Did you get a cost from the Main Dealers or have you not bothered

Can you see the cam cover at the front at that end? (behind the turbo actuator)
Is it this that's leaking?

There's also a turbo oil pipe that runs across the top of that bracket (not in my image), me thinks it's the oil return to sump pipe, can you get at that and inspect it?

I noticed it when i replaced my Multi-belt, last November.
Don't know how long it's going on.
I'm a little over 60.000 Km's, and the Panda 85 TA is from November 2012.
Estimated cost would be € 1.500,- Plus, to repair it.
At this point i leave it be, not planning to get it fixed, it is just a minor weep.
