where as in first it doesn't. Is this the Stilo's way of telling me to leave it in gear when you turn the ignition off?

Yes, you need to leave ANY car in gear - manuals included, I always have done.

In the case of the selespeed, if you leave it in neutral and turn off ignition, it is beeping you to remind you that you need to nudge the lever into gear, either 1st or reverse. Then the beeping stops (y)

Agree with Matt here I have NEVER had to leave mine in gear to switch off ignition always in neutral and never have I had Beeps when doing it you lot got some strange cars

'Beeps'? Hardly! Of course, just because it goes deedleeedleeedleeedleeedleeeedle doesn't mean to say you can't leave it in neutral anyway, I do :)

What I find a bit more puzzling is the Daah-dah sound occasionally while driving off; I think it might be if a door is open or seatbelt not fastened yet, but then, it seems to have something to do with reverse. Of course it could also mean that the CN phone received a text message while switched off (though, I think that's a different sound). Also, it's not the reversing sensors. Any ideas? ;)

Don't you leave your car in gear when you park it up then? I never rely on my handbrake alone, probably don't even yank it that high to be honest.

Granted, on a manual, you can slip it in once the ignition is off - but the selespeed is still primed for a few moments once you turn off, which allows you to select a gear accordingly.

No Stu I never have put my car into gear when parking it or turned the wheels into the curb just in case and yes I did see the threads about it I have never had this problem or hopefully will get it [PNL touching wood] I do realise what happens though IE- pull on hand brake discs cool and leave the hand braking system with insufficient pressure on the the rear disc to pad area reading your reply though makes me think this is about the sillyspeed gearboxes and not the manual boxes (y)

I have had some rather strange noises in my car they are sort of Pwfert sounds followed by a rather lingering smell thinking though that this might not be anything to do with the car

Both our CN+'s never play(ed) a noise when receiving a text message

And Alex, why are you driving off in reverse?? :p

It's only taken me 10 months to notice this beep  Always thought the leaving a car in gear thing was for people who lives on steep hills only like on a hovis advert.

I think I'll record the Stilo beeps and turn them into a symphony, Rolf Harris Syltophone style, I'll call it the Stilophonic orchestra. (y)

You mean PNL Stylophone :p

The word ROLF hasn't been mentioned for some time now and there's me thinking you had all forgotten :bang:

Have to say that the Stilo handbrake is very strong and capable of holding it easily on hills. But, it's rear pads only set up means the pads have only to back off 0,1mm- that's ALL- and there's absolutely no brakes and off it goes.
A sharp stop just before you park is all it takes to really heat up the discs- you forget- 10mins later disc cools off and off goes your pride and joy.

Had to avoid one in my travels - driving along I see a car reversing down the road, straight towards me- "Funny" i think "no reversing lights"
"Bloody hell! No DRIVER!!"

Threw my car out of the way and this runaway car went over the pavement, knocked down a guy on the pavement before embedding itself in a lamp post. A right mess. Handbrake was still in the ON position too

The owner of the car came out just as the ambulance was arriving. All the usual stuff "But I put the handbrake on! " "I didn't believe that could happen"
"That's never happened before"

Many other cars with rear pads have a separate and independent handbrake set up but the Stilo is one of the many that doesn't
