General Trouble opening the bonnet

HI, i have a Fiat Brava SX (51 reg) and it has been sitting on the road for a couple of months, i recently broke the leaver to pop the bonnet, i have tried pulling the metal wire, but still wont "pop"
Does anyone know of another way to get into my bonnet as the car needs to be jump started and put into temporary storage

I hadn't broken the lever on mine but it wouldn't open. Not sure whether the cable had stretched but anyway the only way i managed to get it open was by gently pulling off the front grill it was held on by blobs of clear silicone type stuff. Once it was off it gave enough access to get your hand in and release the bonnet catch.
I put the grill back on with a few small self tapper screw so if i ever need to take it off again its an easy job.
My release works but i have to prise the spring back on the catch so the bonnet will lock properly so there is a handy screwdriver for this job in the door bin.
