Tris's New Car

maybe i'm a boring old fart, or maybe i have done so well in life because i've always been like this, but personally i would save any money you have and buy a £2000 car. one day you will really need money, and a few grand in the bank will make all the difference.

once you have a really nice 5 bed detached house paid for and enough money to retire, then you can blow a few grand on boys toys, but until then there will always be something worth saving for.

your not supposed to be talking me out of it Jug!! GPS m-jet is sounding good though

GPS M-Jet will lose more in the one year that you will keep it for than Jug's Astra cost him so I would suggest you think about this ;)

Jug is completely right, anything less than 3 years old will lose a large chunk of it's value during the year that you own it so might be worth buying something a little bit older for less money and not take such a big hit when you come to sell it again.

2000/2001 plate RenaultSport Clio 172's can be had for as little as £1500 now with decent low mileage examples going for around the £2000 mark :yum: Insurance isn't going to be cheap for a 19year old though

I can't believe how sensible i'm now thinking!

Think i might just sell up and get a mk2b, would get a 54 plate at least for what i get for my Fez.

What else can i get for around the 4500 mark then? Civic sport 1.6 maybe...

getting an active sport seems daft to me when the sporting is soooooo much better. i'd rather pay the extra insruance, at least you can have some fun and you wont feel crap every time a sporting goes past. i'd even rather have a mk2 sporting than a mk2b active sport.

that is a very confused list with a wide price variance. the only common element is a hatchback.

before you think about the actual cars, you need to decide how much you want to spend and what you want the car to do. what fuel economy are you looking for, and what kind insurance?

personally; from that list the only cars i'd want to own are the 147, focus, C30 & leon.

lets decide on a budget first.

Thinking of which most are over the group 10 insurance limit as well.

right, bit of an update on this. Blooming Jug has made me think sensibly about this, and i've whittled my list down abit, and added a few extra's

GPS (2006ish)

Astra sri (2005ish)

mk2b punto sporting

MG ZR 105 (2004ish)

Civic Sport (2004ish)

Focus tdci (2006ish)

Golf Tdi (2005ish)

I'm looking to change withing the next month now, my cars going in for MOT on saturday and it will be up for sale. (hint hint, anyone fancy a fiesta zetec) :)

Astra sri (2005ish) diesel (y) petrol hmmm

mk2b punto sporting :p

MG ZR 105 (2004ish) :(

Civic Sport (2004ish) hmmmm i looked at one

Focus tdci (2006ish) 2.0 or the 1.6 is okay... but not the 1.8 (y)

Golf GTdi (2005ish) (y)

I'm looking to change withing the next month now, my cars going in for MOT on saturday and it will be up for sale. (hint hint, anyone fancy a fiesta zetec) :)

altered :D

i'd love a GT Tdi, few people have them at work and they go like stink, but insurance say no lol

astra would be 1.7 or 1.9 (120) cdti or 1.8 petrol

was considering the 1.8tdci in the Focus... what dont you like about it?

im really considering a mk2b punto sporting, just for cheapness really, + with induction and remap, they see decent gains.

always had a thing for MG's

the MG ZR's are supposed to rocket though head gaskets though...ive a mate who has gone though 4 already and he is a "granny" driver,
