Idea Tricky starting...

Hello, I have a Idea 1.3 Multijet 2004 It’s been very tricky starting it on these now cold mornings in the UK. When it finally start it kicks out a lot of white smoke. I have changed the glow plugs which has not made any difference what might you suggest next.

Check all 4 glow leads are getting power

Fundamentals:

You need hot plugs : 12v supply

Injected fuel : crank speed

You have smoke.. so its telling me fuel is being injected..but unburnt until all 4 cylinders are warm

2 things to try..

Warm plugs twice before cranking.. can help with initial heat

Depress clutch when cranking.. less load on starter.. so a faster spin.. better compression effect

Also.. IF the H.P. Pump is tired extra rpm will build additional rail pressure
(I dont think thats your original issue)
