So what does it say about the lack of discipline that everyone says is missing from our society when one of the first people to appear before the courts and pleading guilty to looting is a 31-year-old teacher?

Think most people missed this post due to the arguements going on.

That doesn't really prove anything does it. We know not *everyone* rioting is a youth.

At least they were a *bit* responsible and pleaded guilty though!

Agreed. I'm going home to beat the crap out of my teacher wife before she goes rioting and ****s up the place (y) That'll teach her a less.

I'm 56 & bought a NYPD hoodie in New York as it was a bit windy & cold... proceeds from Sales went to the Widows & Orphans from 9/11 so was a good cause. I wore it happily there daily, with no issues... but I haven't worn it since we got back to the UK quite a few weeks back because of the stigma attached. Just like the Union Jack & certain other items of branded clothing, the wasters in the UK have blurred the divide between what is acceptable to wear / display & what isnt, by association.

I have no problem wearing hoodies, I just don't wear them right over my face :)

But then everyone who wants to hide their face will just wear a burka instead of a mask of and thing else.

It'll be ****ing funny to watch though :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, you'll be able to spot them a mile away under a burkha because the walk they all seem to have.

Perhaps if there was any hope of ever achieving anything in life if you're born into poverty then things wouldn't be boiling over.

Obviously there are exceptions, but social mobility has pretty much ended for the latest generation.

We are a country and Haves and Have-nots. Should we just expect those at the bottom to accept it?

What utter rubbish! Poverty does not exist in this country, not in any real sense. Poverty does not mean not having the latest flat screen TV and XBox. If it did then many working people would be more poverty-stricken than many of those on benefits.
These riots are just mass-law breaking and are nothing to do with poverty ,and if you think that then you are giving people an excuse to come and set fire to your car/house/business just because they think they are hard done by.
Social mobility was most harmed when grammar schools were closed down, and when there ceased to be any incentive to work due to the benefits system.
I have been struck by how many of the affected business owners are obviously immigrants and how many of the law breakers are either home - grown white or black people. Try telling somebody who has set up a business here from nothing that it is ok for some gang of people to smash it up becuase they were "born in to poverty". They will be too amazed by your naivety to even comment.

It's a catch 22. They're never going to get employment when they act like this and commit crime, and until they've got jobs they will want to act like this.

I'm sorry but he is somewhat right. The problem is that the middle class have become so vacuous and obsessed with bling and posessions and the lower class want in too.

He certainly wasn't saying it was OK for them to do this, just explaining why they have a lack of respect for others.

Also, let me just say that benefits aren't really that fantastic. I applied for (and was denied for a ridiculous reason) job seekers allowance. This was going to net me a fantastic ~£50 a week. Thankfully I'm working now anyway.
