Can these be replaced quite cheaply and easily? Mine are knocking like hell on o/s/f even over minor bumps... Did anyone successfully get them done by main dealer even when out of warranty?

The turret bearings are all pain on the qubo as you need to remove the Window wipers and the trim in front of the windowscreen. Invariably the new units have next to no seal and only a faint coat of grease. You need to pack them with lm grease before fitting or the road salt will get into the metal races and corode the crap out of them.... Which is why they failed prematurely anyway.

Spot on......The bearings on these are open to the elements as opposed to under the bonnet, the new design ones are encased in rubber to stop water ect getting in to the bearing.
Half the problem would have been avoided had fiat made a cover to go on top of the strut mount and a gaiter on the bottom of bearing where it engages with the spring.
This whole issue with these bearings is obvious when you look at it(n)
I used to pressure wash right up under the strut, but to be on the safe side i don't now, even with the modified one's(y)

around 1hr a side I would say to do the mounts not a hard job but you will need a spring clamp

:bang:As chimpy said, can take you an hour to remove them bits.....longer if you have trouble getting the wiper arms off, i had a right laugh removing mine even with a proper pulling tool, the ali arms weld themselves to the steel splines.
My bud needed to remove his wiper arm, the puller slipped and broke the windscreen:cry:

I did the 2 front springs in just over 2 hrs
you can do the one side without taking the wipers off
if you just lift up the cover and you only need to take the 1 wiper off

Cool, but you should really replace them in pairs as they tend to fail within a few thousand miles of each other. Something of interest. The vertical alignment of the front wheels is a bit hit and miss on these vehicles. After dismantling and repairing the strut you should check the wheel is vertical, as nine times out of ten you will find the tyre wears on the inside. When you check the tracking it is correct but they wear as the holes in the strut or hub must vary with accuracy. I have not experienced this on any other make of car but I have it on my qubo and it explains all the problems people have with tyre wear on the front. I will correct the alignment before I replace my front tyres so I can tell if it has corrected the flaw.
