I will tell you danny...MDF is loads cheaper, forget keeping weight down, it wont happen, if you really want to keep weight down then turn to fibreglass!!

Paul, make sure its got 1 high pass filter and 1 low pass filter, both around the 200-400Hz mark. Some just have filters for subs and don't go above 100Hz.

The nice thing about that sort of setup is you can dump lots of power into the 6.5" speakers and get good bass up front.

Danny, ply all the way. Its only a bit more expensive.
