sold my old alloys so im going to treat myself to some ice. At the moment ive got a lovely kenwood 600 watt amp in the boot. 1x240W which is running an 800 watt 12" pioneer sub. the other 4x80W outputs are going to waste. in the front sony 120W 13cm coaxials which sound rubbish. keep with me! i dont mind a bit of hard work what do u all recommend i get for £100 tops. im a bit of a bass junky too. these are the sort of things which are taking my fancy. ps what do crossovers do? (please dont take the **** lol)

Re: Re: to experts of ice

ive got a really nice £250 amp just need some decent speakers to plug into it. what sizes work best with a 12 sub. ie 6x9 or 17cm, component or coaxial

Re: Re: to experts of ice

i guess u get what u pay for at the end of the day. that phase component will be out of my price bracket if i need 2 one for each side. all i really need to know is what type of speaker. i heard on here 6x9's wouldn't work to well with a sub but anything would be better than the standards. can u explain what a crossover is. im guessing that it splits the treble to the tweeter and the base to the speaker.

Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

You get a pair for that price :)

6x9s are just crap, they are made cheaply and sound it.

Yup, a crossover does exactly that.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

while you are here tom, give us a hand!

I have got a pair of rockford fostagate components in the front foot well is a custom build, they run off a little amp, i want to put a 6inch component in the door and tweeter in the origonal tweeter position...if these run off the hu would they run out of phase with the ones running off the amp? i hope i am making sense....basically 8 speakers in the front, two on an amp, two off the hu, will they run in or out of phase????

Also, do fiat fit a cross over behind the dash to run to the tweeters and the doors?

Thanks alot for any help again tom

Paul, WHY?!? It will sound AWFUL!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

god i cant wait to see this. your car sounds awesome mate. im still waiting to get my build in. i need to source some nice material for it then im off. might start on sat im not sure about wood aswell, mdf of ply, ply is lighter but which is cheapest. any idea mate.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

Why will it sound terrible? Educate me tom!!!:)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

Apart from the fact the delays through each amp will be slightly different, every type of speaker has a slightly different frequency and phase response.

As the two types play the same frequencies you will get all sorts of distortion as they won't be playing in exactly the same way.

Why on earth do you want 8 speakers up front?!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

the only reson i want 8 speackers is just to fill the holes!!!!

I have all the origonal holes, doors and dash....plus i have got custom kick builds with a 4"and tweet in...the car had a set of JL 3ways in it before, hence the kick builds!

it just seems a shame to leave the other spaces empty!!what if i was to get a 4channel amp and another set of rockford components...would they run in phase then???

Thanks again tom, what you said was exactly what i thought you was going to say, but there must be away!

Paul R

P.S. what would you do?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

Why not get some 6.5" and go 3 way? You'd have to get the same components if you want to run them in parallel.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

How will i go three way? wouldi need to buy some kind of custom crossover? if i buy the same style component again i will get an extra tweeter, can i put this in the origonal fiat position? it will be more than a 7 inchs away (i think that is what rockfor say, either side by side, or at least 7 inchs apart?)

The crossover puzzles me? or would i just T off the wires going to my 4inch already?

Sorry if i am saying crap tom!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

If you got a 4 channel amp with a variable high pass and low pass filter you could run the 6.5" from 1 pair of channels and the 4" and tweet from the second set of channels. Semi-active setup. Would sound quite good.

If you have tweets in the footwells you won't want them in the dash as well, the difference in distance from each tweet to your ears also causes problems.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

Can i not just use my rockford cross over and T off the wires going to the mid and send them to the 6.5", would this not act like the high/low pass filters?

Thanks again

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

No, the 6.5 and 4 would then be playing the same range of frequencies again.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: to experts of ice

Oh right...so a four channel amp is the way!!!

Thanks again

alright Tom mate while your on can i just ask a quick quest (sorry to butt in paul mate) with regards to my boot build which wood do you suggest for best sound mdf or ply. i know ply is lighter that is why i was wondering to keep the weight down on the car is it more expensive then mdf, cheers Danny
