Thermostat gone?

I think my Thermostat my have gone, what do you think?

Yesterday driving to work, the heater stopped blowing hot air, as this happened I noticed the temp gage go up from the normal quarter>third level to just above half way.

10 mins later I floored the car of a busy junction and the heat came back on and the temp gage went back to normal. Again a bit later hot air off, temp gage back up.

This morning the car was a real pain to start (a bit frosty) and no heat all the way to work (15 mins drive) and the temp gage above half way.

So Thermostat Gone?

Age and milage of car? Certainly sounds like the stat is on its last legs.

It's 1.6 Brava SX, on a P reg, it's done 56,000 miles

I've got a P reg 1.6 and mine did that last year, the spring and the wax get old and tired.

£50ish for the stat and 1hr fitting.

I have a similar problem with my car, (Bravo 1.8hlx, 64,ooo miles) only mine runs cold. The temp gauge never goes above the 3rd or 4th marker unless im sat in traffic for a while.

Bought a new stat from fiat today for £38.95, and should be fitting it over the weekend. Should sort the problem and will hopefully imporve my cars terrible mpg!
