My boy has a 1.7 turbo diesel Punto SX, N reg with the 'won't start, key code light stays on' problem.
I posted about it in the newbie section but now I know a bit more about both Puntos and Forums, I've started this post with more information.
The car starts some days but not others for no apparent reason so we just want to disable the immobiliser and get on with life!

With these instructions:

I have bypassed many of these code systems. There is a three pin plug going to code control unit @ rear of pump unplug and smash of control unit taking care not to damage solinoid behind control unit. Remove 2 x shear bolts that secure control unit use vice grips once removed check which wire on the three pin plug that you disconected is the ignition supply (should be middle).
Solder to the wire on top of solinoid, tape up the 2 exposed wires left over , now disconect (large plug on code box next to steering coloum under dashboard, yellow-green or black in colour depending on year produced this stops code light from coming on) car or van will now start but you dont have an immobiliser.
Most mechanics will charge in excess of £300 to do this job. You can save stacks of cash by doing it yourself.

There is a solonoid under the bonnet just behind the battery but I didn't want to smash the control unit on top of it and start soldering wires incase it ain't the right one!
The bottom of the solonoid has red and brown 4mm or 6mm sized wires bolted to it. The plug on the top control unit has 5 wires: 1. violet/black - 2. blue/white - 3. orange/black - 4. red/black - 5. blue/red.
Can anyone who has disabled their immobiliser tell me if I'm looking at the right component to take my hammer to and where I should re-connect the control wires?
