not to bad considering the line hasn't been active more then 10 days and there's currently six computers connected and one of them is probaly using bit torrent

Surely they'll not be shaping traffic for speed tests?

Dave, ideally you want your router as close to where the phone line comes in as possible, run a longer lan cable if required, it won't suffer as much and would have bandwidth to spare anyway.

Also try disconnecting any phone extensions around the house, sometimes they can act as an ariel and screw with DSL/ADSL.

Switch the router off, wait half a minute and switch back on try and force a resync with the exchange after doing anything with the cables.

depends
VM will cut your speed if you go over your daily allocation
then they also have traffic shaping in place

my phone line comes off a pole to the house and runs down the out side of the house and has a conector box halfway too, my extension is hard wired in. i think i need bt to fit new cable with no conector but i dont pay line rental to them so they wont do nothing :(

Yes they will. Who you pay your line rental too doesn't matter BT are still getting their cut through wholesale.

They will however only fit a new cable if it is adversely effecting either your broadband / voice calls or both.

Dave, ours was broken when the fascia boards on the house were changed (it had been there for decades by then). Rang BT and it turns out it was due for replacement anyway, so they came out and did it early, you could check if yours is too (probably if your speeds are that crap).

custard - what I meant is surely they would leave the traffic going back and forth to speedtest.net's servers well alone, even during peak hours and if someone has gone over their "unlimited" (roll eyes face) allowance. Although they probably would get in trouble for doing that.
