how accurate is google maps for short distances like half miles?

Do you have an Android? Have a look at iMapMyRun, was free last time I checked, seems pretty accurate for distances, and tracks over heathland, not just roads.
Is it just me or does a mk3 Mondeos headlights look like a mk3 Cortina through limo glass? Ie one was behind me today and I thought "classic rally or am I in 1981?"
