Why can't I sorn my bedford bambi online

It comes up, due to the taxation class of this vehicle that I have to do it at the post office...and my V5 is red  not green and blue

The V5 for my new pug is red, and got the landy swapped to my new flat - the V5 that came back for that is now red, same for the hyundai I just assumed all V5's were now being done in red.....

Buying road tax at the post office!!!

The post office says that my insurance certificate has to be printed with a lazer printer however the directgov site says it doesn't, that says as long as it's the certificate and not a photocopy it's fine!

Anyone had any experience with this?

Couple of years back I had this exact same issue, I tried to explain that it was from an online only insurance company that wouldn't send anything out, the clerk was having none of it, I got asked to leave by security even though I hadn't kicked off in any way. Following day differant postoffice and it was fine.

Road tax is now all electronic yet its still an offence to not display an easy-steal paper ticket in the windscreen. I might move mine to the back window. Its still displayed innit ;)

Displaying your tax disc
Your vehicle tax disc must be displayed on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle’s windscreen. If there’s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, you should display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle.

I very nearly gave a ticket last night for not displaying tax, but it turned out it was private land. Got all excited for a minute lol.

Maybe in the future when we have Robocops they can scan our numberplates and check our tax and we can finally get rid of that unsightly sticker on our windscreens (y)

If someone's taxed their vehicle online do they get a grace period from placing the order? ie. can they get away with not displaying a disc if they only paid for it yesterday?
i dont think so as the whole idea is you buy the tax before you need it so that it comes by the time yours runs out. not 100% sure though

We already have it called ANPR. Its on all police controlled camera systems and its on their patrol cars. Regardless of what's on your screen they call it in or look at their in-car system. Discs can so easily be scanned and photoshopped they are pointless but no-one bothered to change the law.

SORN is another pointless exercise in central control. It makes work for everyone and of course the DVLA who thought it up ;) Jobs for the boys - Oh yes!
But its only illegal to use an untaxed vehicle on public and with APNR they soon get caught. So why have SORN at all?

Yeah from my many hours spent watching road wars I know of ANPR ;) I just meant for a policeman walking about on his own really. (Yes it does happen, I was once PULLED OVER by a policeman on foot..)

Yeah SORN is a waste of time and a massive unnecessary hassle.

Yes it's 5days from when the tax has expired. If you renew late and it's outside the grace period your leaving yourself open to prosecution for failure to display.

What about new tax on a SORN vehicle though? Not everyone has the opportunity to get to a post office (moreso with them all closing) during opening times and might need to urgently get a car back on the road.

Yeah, half of them don't know what they're talking about. Ask them how they go about those insured with SwiftCover who only send documents Via eMail meaning they have to be printed at home ;)

Got it no problem woman at the post Office didn't even know how to tell the difference anyways :ROFLMAO:

Or wonder why you don't do it online from the comfort of your own home ...

It's my first car and it has been SORN'd near enough since I got it so I was all excited about going and buying a tax disc and putting it on my car the same day I got it back from it's MOT. I was like a kid on Christmas morning never been so excited spending £71.50 on a wee bit paper before lol

And am I right thinking that once you buy tax for a car then it automatically comes of the SORN'd list you don't have to fill in any silly forms? (y)
