Just a little thankyou to the posters on this forum,we bought a w reg 'pla 3 weeks ago from local independant dealer , but before we did we checked out this forum and the only thing that put us off was the clutch problems reported.
However the car seemed fine and one of the dealers selling points was that the car had a new clutch , the price was right (1650) so we took the plunge.
After 4 days proud ownership the gearchange became very stiff and difficult and we couldent get reverse , the car went back to the dealer who pronounced the problem "summat and nowt" and we could have the car back that afternoon , so far so good.
5 days later same problem so took the car back to the dealer who tried all the tricks , well its a used car , it was fine when it left here , I can get the gears, yadda yadda yadda , he soon shut up when I showed him printouts from this forum about the commom clutch faults and told him in bluntly I knew what the problem was and I wanted it fixed , like now!!
Result-It turns out the cack-handed mechanic who had changed the clutch had damaged the master cylinder seals somehow and not bled the clutch correctly , the first bodge repair had been to top up the clutch fluid and bleed it again
We now have a super black 'pla that runs like a new car ,
I guess the moral of the story is check your facts, stick to your guns and be sure of yourself , the guy at the garage is not god , just thinks he is
Thanks again guys
And by the way what is "error 255"
