Available updates would never cure fuel level sensor fault. What garage(s) have you had it in? Was a Fiat field engineer sent to look at your car?

they got the technical team involved at head office they said and they recommended changing the fuel pump (which contains the fuel level sensor) and this had did not cure it. I personally think it's a voltage problem with the battery but I can't be sure until I change the battery. I also had "alternator failure" a few times over a few weeks then it never came back.

I took it to Arnold Clark but TBH I've been disappointed with them. They've been doing Fiat for years so in theory they should know.

I would of thought a field engineer would of been sent out by now,how old is your stilo?
There are a few troublesome connectors hidden away behind the dash that give problems as you describe or as you said battery problems, has battery been changed,is right battery fitted?
Have you tried Bickets(kilmarnock)also think there is a good fiat garage in Edinburgh or even Arnold clark(Ayr)as they now have 2 electricians there(one sounds australian? he is very helpful/knowledgeable,cant remember his name)but remember if it's intermittent fault can be time consuming to trace but I would leave your car at a garage for few days & see what they come up with, good luck:)

thanks for your suggestions. It was Arnold Clark Alison St I used. The car is 4 years old in March and out of warranty (one of the first Stilos) and is still on the original factory fit battery.

Yesterday night I got Oil Pressure, ASR, ESP and Fuel sensor on Start up:bang:

It cleared on On/Off but still ..... Sometimes it seems to be the weather, its more twitchy when its really damp.

I really should try a new battery:rolleyes:

I thought Alisosn St. would have had it sorted too as they are a very experienced bunch in terms of years or they've been servicing Fiats. One questions I had was that would putting a morepowerful battery in (e.g. a diesel) damage the cars in any way? I take it no but just checking.

cheers

Personally I think the standard battery(like I say i'm sure it's a 250A)is little on the small side, especially when you consider a basic old style(mk3)fiesta has a 390A battery? Alot of faults with warning lights happen a crank(start up)and often combined with the clock resetting to zero,I have monitored this on examiner and noticed cluster power supply dropping as low as 7.78volts & fitted a 350A battery to cure this(it still drops to around 11volts but not enough to reset clock/date etc),this is exagerated in winter when the battery has to work harder. The alternator is up to the job to charge a 350 battery so no worries there but obviously it depends on alot of factors, short journeys, heated rear window on all the time etc.

The electronics in the Stilo are very sensitive for low voltages - all kinds of failures can be reported due to voltage being too low.
I also had many failures especially during startup and by fitting a larger battery (74 Ah instead of 60 Ah) my problems were solved.
I hope your problems will also disappear by fitting a larger battery !

Good luck,

Gert
