Technical The immobiliser 'ring' aerial thing

The part which wraps around the ignition barrel and goes to the immobiliser:-

Are they coded to the car?

I always believed they were generic and could be swapped about

Surely the key, immobiliser and ecu are the only parts which talk to each other and the aerial just has to be intact?

They are just a coil with wires on. Should be generic. I don't know if any of the specs changed with years etc, but I'm sure they are just an closed loop aerial.

They are generic.

Some people have reported when swapping to 16v code boxes and ecu's that their old 8v aerial didn't work and when they swapped onto the 16v one it did, but any one i've swapped about have always worked on any aerial, 8v or 16v in any car.
