The FF ECU Reader...?

The FF ECU Reader...?

No Ben, we have the full Sykes Pickavant diagnostic (error code reading, ectuator tests, compnenet test etc) for ECU, SRS and ABS. Its what most independant specialists use. So this reads the error codes, runs tests when the car is running, tests various components and also resets things like air bag warning lights.

We have about 16 pods too, we dont just do Fiat/Alfa with it. If any FF member needs help all they need to do is let us know and if we are in the area then we will pop along for a small fee (as my previous post).

To give you an example, we were in Reading Monday/ Tuesday, Bolton & Wigan yesterday and Bourne and North Yorkshire today!!

I am not suggesting you dont buy the kit, just suggesting that you will still need to be with the car lol!

Cheers mate

Yeah thats kinda what I meant :) This box just will tell you what an error is when you already have it (and i assume the car already knows about it) - your stuff can actually run diag tests on a car right to find things it doesn'#t yet know about?

(I'm trying to work out the usefulness of this box relating to why we originally talked about it :))

Hi mate, yoeah that box will be usefull, however what is your intention. Are you going to post it out to people who need it or will they have to come to you? Just be carefull you dont dig a hole for yourself as if you diagnose something to be wrong and someone changes an expensive component and it either deosnt make any difference or isnt that part thats at fault you will be kicked from here to eternity.

Which box where you talking about? The Actron? Yeah, just post it to people who needed it. Am i right in thinking it doesn't diagnose, just tells you the error code which is causing the light on your dash to come on?

Whereas you can run full checks on things (which I think the second laptop box *can* do?)

Oh, and can you also confirm if the sei/cinq has the obdII port? :D

No, the cinqs didnt but neither did some of the early Sei's. We dont work on them though so I may well be wrong on the Sei's, just going by the wone or two we have done diags on for people.

I think its a good idea, just dont be surprised if it doesnt diagnose everything though. I had a Marea today (Hi John!!) that had 7 error codes and ran alike a bag of ****e. Cleared the error codes down run it for ages, no error codes - still ran like a bag fof ****e (there were no error lights by the way, even with the 7 codes)

Its rare that a diag will pick up MAF errors - that is definent!

Just got the latest pods for my 'snap on' tester about a week ago. It cost about 3K 18months ago (the main unit). It gives fault codes, for all car systems (srs, abs, engine, gears, drive train etc) and allows for acctuator tests etc. The pods cover all cars except Jap cars. I have diagnosed a few MAF sensor faults with it. All systems for all cars are on the one pod and the second pod contains a troubleshooter for rectfying the faults found! It's the best reader I've used. not exactly what you're going to want tho :D
It sounds like a good idea to me that you get this for ppl to use.

We have the diagnostic kit for Fiat/Alfa plus the SRS and ABS stuff too for airbag warning lights. It trawls around with us as part of the service, i.e. we always do diagnostic testing before we do anything else.
We normally charge £25 for a full diag with a £10 refund if there are no errors, £15 for ABS and £10 for a SRS reset/diagnsotic. We dont always charge, it depends where we are and what we are doing and if we need to travel out of our way - we have even know to do it for lunch!

Hi if your ever in the sunny south wales area let me know I have very little history of my stilo ad had few ASR lights I switch of and switch back on and its cleard but would like to know whats going on (y)

The only problem is guys that the skill is interpretting the fault codes, and not just reading them. For instance many vehicles record rpm sensors if the engine is stalled, this doesnt mean the sensor is faulty, it just means the ecu was expecting a signal it didnt receive. Any idiot can connect the fault code reader to a vehicle, the skill is to make sense of the results.

Just found another one which you plug in, press 1 button and it gives you the error codes on its built in screen. Then use the manual to look the code up.... might be better than a laptop style one, though obviously lacks some features (however, ANYONE could use it....?)

Oh, and its half the price :)

Hi, Where can I get one of these?? £30, its worth the investigation

Ebay......however if you think a £30 ode reader can do same as a £4k (without extras) specific diag computer then think again.

Does come in handy though I will admit but cant/doesn't read all errors from all nodes/modules.
