You could pull up close to the kerb before the driveway. Let them pass then, when the road is clear, swing across & reverse in?

The road wouldn't clear until about 8pm, I'd have more chance of getting a parking ticket unfortunately.

Then your other option is to take more control of the situation. Indicate in advance then as you draw closer, put on your hazards, slow everything behind to a crawl, then quickly swing into the kerb & across the road at an angle.
Any idiot that gets up your arse deserves to be reversed into.

EDIT: at what point in reverse selection does the GP switch the reverse light on? On the Stilo it was only when the lever was over to the side, before being fully engaged, might be worth checking this, as you'll be able to illuminate your reverse ligth a few meters in advance, giving plenty of warning but not damaging your gear box.
