Yes, the cinq is still overheating.

Ive replaced the rocker cover gasket, thermostat and coolant temp sensor so they are all ok.

Ive taken the rad fan off - what an arse getting the screw out that holds it in in front of the drivers wheel! and connected it straight to the battery but it doesnt spin.

I hope that this is the problem, Ive seen that you can get them from shop4parts for just over £40, anyone have one lying around that works?

Also, when getting up to operating temperature, the radiator steams from just below the drivers headlight, looking at the rad, it looks like there is a wet part of it. Is this likely to be a buggered rad?

If the fan does not spin up when 12 volts are connected to it then it needs replacing.

If the radiator has a wet patch on it - it is leaking - and needs replacing.

Are you sure that the head gasket is not blown ?

Check for water in the oil and vice versa..... Mayonaise type sludge on underside of oil filler cap is a clear sign of head gasket problems. Also, check coolant tank for signs of oil.

Good luck.

Yeah, can't believe you didn't check fan n rad first. If you're overheating and you can't hear the fan, fix the fan! Also it can be the thermostatic fan switch inthe rad.

The rocker cover gasket needed replacing anyway, and I had the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat anyway, so it was worth swapping them over.

The fan may not have been coming on due to either the coolant temp sensor or the thermostat, both can stop the fan from working and are common problems.

No, the thermostat has no link to the fan at all, it just lets water into the radiator at a set temp
