I have to say that based on my experience with a toyota recall they will move heaven and earth to try and appease the poor owners.

My old truck was subject to a Japan based recall, toyota UK agreed to honour the recall for all surf owners in addition to their obligations to the 4runner owners (this was released in the UK)

All owners reported getting their trucks valeted, some got choccies, wine, or flowers, some got £10 worth of fuel as well - guess who was popular with the valeter for having been offroad just before the recall
The problem I see for Toyota is that their typical customer (an older person) is usually the sort of person who loses trust easily and loses faith in a brand quite quickly. My mother in law likes our 500 but because of the bad reputation they had I suspect would never buy one.

i'm not so sure, this isn't like the days of yore where certain manufacturers stood by and shrugged their shoulders. i've been seeing a lot of interviews from various toyota uk seniors on the news, and it appears HQ is hitting the overtime hard to rectify the issue. i can't see them losing that many sales from it, not to the degree that they would have to pull out of any markets, become a subsidary of another company, and essentially a half forgotten, sub branding exercise in pointlessness......

Well considering they're pretty much not selling any cars it's going to hurt at least in the short term. Went to a Toyota dealer on Saturday to browse and there was no one there!

grandma jones out for a lovely afternoon drive with the ladies of the WI, down to mrs miggins teahouse, approaches roundabout, lifts of throttle, presses brakes...and the car decides:

FWD toyotas....drift build in....:p

btw: since the 107 and c1 are all on the same as the aygo, are people wetting their pants at the inevitable ticking time bomb on their driveways? are they dumping those in case the price of their house falls, lest it be seen parked out front.......

erm i may be missing something but why cant people just take it out of gear when this happens?

I remember my accelerator sticking open (I think something overheated and stuck in the carburettor, after driving up the M1 to a music festival, with a full car). We arrived at the campsite, with thousands of people milling about, but I was able safely negotiate my way through to where we were camping - much use of the brake and clutch pedals and a rather smelly clutch plate.
The pedestrians probably thought I was a boy-racer trying to show off in his knackered old Mk1 Escort !
It was fine when it had cooled down.

was an old boy on the news yesterday saying how he crashed because of it and he had to then get a lesser car because his model went out of production.

today there a bloke on the news from Toyota saying it hasnt caused no accidents in the uk

Well tbf if his driving is anything like the old boys around here he was just glad to have something to blame his incompetance on.
I was waving at an old lady on a quadracycle while changing a tape at which point the car in front stopped and hit it. After I saw it on the news I realised I must have suffered a stuck throttle which caused the accident.
Wonder how many toyota insurance claims will involve the words "the throttle stuck" in the next six months.

If he actually said it like that, then that means there have been accidents :p

no he thinks it caused it
his insurer called it a total loss and the model he had was no longer produced
