My R reg HGT is coming up for a service, and I'm probably going to get the big engine out job done. I'd be interested in any ideas of what I can get uprated while I'm getting the work done as its the perfect time to get it all fitted. I've already got the induction kit and I'm going to get good sparks and leads added. Splitfire sound OK? Any other easy engine mods you can think of?

Thanks alot.

cams

Somewhere further up there is mention of some Fiat Coupe performance cams which apparently fit the Bravo HGT aswell. This was something I was going to look into when I get my cambelt done.

If you are going for it, please let us know how you get on.

Out of interest, what mileage is yours?

Service

I saw you wanted to fit splitfire plugs!!! Dont!! I am a spark plug design engineer and they are a con!! We have tested them and they offer no more performance thjan optimised standard plugs. I look after FIAT for spark plug development and the ones that are standard fit are a compromise for durability, they have to reach 36,000 miles! I have fitted some standard plugs with gaps opened to 1mm and they run so much better, the engine feel so much smoother. The reason for this is that you get a longer spark so the air fuel mixturwe is ignited better. I would not go over 1mm as this limits the durability. Ideally you want double platinum plugs with gaps at 1mm (preferably ones with fine wire centre wires). Trust me a standard set of Champion Double coppers or Ngk equivalent will do just a good a job and cost 10 times less. They will obviously need replacing more often but they are still cheaper for the same durability. If anyone needs any more info then let me know. Also HGTs dont have ignition leads they have ignition coils fitted directly on the plugs, so you cant fit any leads, also no benefits to be gained anyway by fitting leads, thats a con too!

Champion Plugs - By far the best

Get the champion centre electrode plugs - they are by far the best. I've raced lots of diffent cars, single seats & tin tops. Every time, no matter what engine, the champion centre electrode plugs are the best. on average i will hit 250 - 500 rpm extra on the straight vs the next best plug.
They dont have any pins either - so no chance of one breaking off and seizing your engine, which I've had happen when using the bosch 4 pin plugs.
They are expensive, but will outlast anything else. When racing I'll get through at least 6 sets of plugs a season, down to only 2 using the champions. You can even feel the benefit as soon as you put them in - it picks up much cleaner.
Anyway, sales pitch over, but that's what I would reccomend.
