Terrorist attack today in London

Why am I not surprised that some reporters are already thinking up excuses as to why these evil people are not responsible for their actions. I despair of this country sometimes. I'm all for personal freedoms but with that comes responsibility.

No one has said that they're not responsible for their actions, but if people who previously didn't go around killing people start to kill people then a reasonable person will look for a reason rather than going "OMFG!!!!! He was always evil innit"

A friend on facebook said that if he was supreme overlord and ruler, that he would only have one rule which was "Don't be a dick", if everyone lived by this rule then we would have no issues.

These people didn't simply do this because they were Muslims, no, it was because they're dickheads and dickheads do dickish things. Islam is merely a vehicle for their dickish tendencies to come out, just as race, sex, having a single digit IQ and other things are merely vehicles for people's inner dickishness to come out.

If Christianity felt like it was under attack then Christians would look to the old testament or to dicks like the Westboro Baptist Morons for wayward guidance on how to act. As has been pointed out further up in this thread, Mohammed's less comforting and caring words were from times when Islam was genuinely under attack, what the hell was he going to say? Let's walk out onto the battlefield and talk about peace, forgiveness and love and hope it ends well?

I will point out again that to lock people up without legitimate reason is letting the dicks win, it's what would happen in one of those fundamentalist Muslim countries that takes stuff in the Koran out of context. Should we act like these dicks in an effort to fight them? Not really..... Should we become them? Not really..... Should we continue on in more or less the same way we always have? Yeah, why not.

The BBC report has laid the foundations of the excuse with reports that he was abused in custody in Kenya. I'm sure the lawyers (that we will probably supply) are sure to roll out all and any 'mitigating' circumstances as to why the men shouldn't be punished to the full extent of the law.

I agree that you can't just lock up someone because they don't 'think' the way of the majority but part of being a member of society is conforming to certain rules and failure to conform should have unavoidable consequences.

There's a difference between an explanation of why he did what he did and an excuse for what he did. Not even his former friend sees it as an excuse for what he's done.

Oh and why shouldn't we supply lawyers? Should we let him have an unfair trial because he's a black Muslim?

Pull your neck in, he should have a fair trial, although as they have boasted about doing the murder on film I'm not sure what the trial should be about, but why should we pay for his lawyers?

Heaven forbid someone should have to do something wrong before they are put in jail.....

interesting, looks like one of the attackers may have been tortured in Kenya....
Seriously? These people were 'on the radar' of our intelligence agency - WHY? You aren't flagged up there for a bit of banter or giving someone a slap.
As for the "tortured in Kenya" bit - maybe the guy was a muppet over there as well?

In any case, he should be grateful that WE are giving him sanctuary, a safe haven to live life etc etc, but instead, he simply abuses the freedoms we give.

Oh and why shouldn't we supply lawyers? Should we let him have an unfair trial because he's a black Muslim?

Why should we? I work all hours for a pittance of pay (if I have a beef with someone, I have to pay for my own legal representation) as do a great many people in this country.
If you feel these guys deserve legal representation, fine - YOU pay for it, but I'm sick and tired of MY taxes being wasted on people who really don't give a sh!te about human life.

If you were up on murder charges then you'd have a lawyer too. The reasons why he was approached by mi5 are in the video, there is no suggestion At this point in time that he was thought to be a risk.

Actually watch the video if you want to discuss or go away if you want to be ignorant of what appears to have gone on.

As you only have one side of the story, you are as ignorant of the 'facts' as everyone else. The only facts that are available to us the general public is that the guy admitted to killing someone on film and threatened the rest of the population with the same.

Shame the police didn't kill them in the gun fight really. Beheading someone with a knife and charging at armed officers with a weapon is grounds to get put our your misery IMO. I wouldn't even give them the dignity of a funeral and have them turned into fertilizer.

Maxi I dare say you wouldn't have the same opinions if it was a member of your family just been hacked up live on camera...

I think you misunderstand, I'm not saying they should be forgiven or whatever, but if there was a reason for what happened, then we need to understand so if there is any way to minimise the risk to people then we can do so.

What is there to understand? Their brand of Islam (which is not the view held by the majority of Muslims) believe that if you do not follow Islam then your life is worthless as you are already consigned to hell. You can't defend against extremists like that in the liberal society we all enjoy in the West.

Oh I dunno, why this guy went from being a Muslim who believed that the best place for Muslims was back in countries where they were the majority to a guy who did what he did......

What amazes me is that hoards of muslims can parade through somewhere like Luton shouting "british police, go to hell" and "UK go to hell" - and that is allowed.
If these hundreds of muslims dislike our police and country so much the answer is fairly simple.
Now I would be more than happy for my taxes to pay for their air fare.
What also amazes me is that the 'good muslims' aren't stopping these parades and aren't out there telling these people to behave like good muslims should.

Anyone care to comment on how hundreds of non-muslims would be treated if we were to parade through a town shouting "muslims go to hell" etc ? Wouldn't that be classed as 'inciting racial tension'?

Seriously, you sure you're not a radical Muslim? You really seem to dislike free speach.

With great freedom comes great responsibility.
I have nothing whatsoever against free speech - so long as it is not overly offensive.

And chanting "uk go to hell" and "British police go to hell" IS overly offensive.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
