Could somebody tell me where I can find the temperature sender unit / sensor on my 1997 R plate TD100. The gauge has started going all over the place and I want to poor pour some hot water over it to check it is responding. Also some idea of the cost to replace and amount of work involved would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

I think that it is if u follow the top radiator pipe back it leads to a unit with 2 wires coming from it one u can see when looking up from underneath up the side of the batery try, i think it is green or blue, and there is a red one going into the unit with a red wire it is at 3 oclock of the unit. The unit is easy enought taken off it is connected to the cylinder head.

I am not 100 percent but i know that it is a heat cencer for something , but maybe not the dash.

Its on the top of the thermostat housing on 1.2 to 1.8 cars. Its easier to get to if the battery is out the way and then it just unscrews. The unit is about £30 depending on which car you have

Oooops

I will read your post correctly shall I!!!! Ah yes a TD100!

It is on the water pump! There are a number of codes for this engine though, but they are about £36.

If you email me your chassis number I can check if required! I can also send you a pic of its location if needed

TD100 Temp Sender

I have now found this (thanks Nige) and this post is to update on the reasons for wanting to find it etc.

I had posted messages previously with respect to the temp gauge sitting on the 3rd notch and then suddenly dropping don to the bottom of the gauge, many people suggested thermostat but I had recently had a recon engine fitted and a new thermostat etc.

The cause of the problem was air trapped in the area around and above the temp sensor in the thermostat body. When the car stopped / accelrated the coolant would switrl around and when the air bubble came above the sender the gauge would drop.

I remedied this by squeezing all the pipes around the thermostat and bleeding the coolant (although very little air came out).

The gauge now sits on the 4th notch and doesn't move.

Cheers,

Andy
