Sub and amp not working?!

Sub and amp not working?!

Alright mate, i had a very similar problem a while back and i know how tricky it can be to find the problem.
Now firstly the best way to find out the cause is by a method of elimination. So you said you've tested the subs and they work fine. Ok Next thing i would do is test the amp on a mates car if possible just to make sure that it does actually work. If it doesnt then you know you need a new amp but if it does then you know that either your wiring is to blame or the head unit itself may have a setting on it which you would have to activate so that the remote wire feeds power to the amp from the head unit itself.

Wiring is usually the culprit.
Things to check,
1. red wire to the battery, make sure the fuse is not blown. Also check your main fuse which feeds power to the head unit in the fuse box of your car and the fuse on the back of your head unit and amp!
2.remote wire are you sure you have connected it properly to the head unit? Some head units like my Alpine have 2 different blue wires, one is for the remote wire and the other one is for something else (cant remember what)
3.You said your RCA cables are fine
4.so the last thing to check would be the earth wire and your cabling to the subs.

failing that you may have to activate a setting on the head unit itself to get power to the amp, like on my alpine there is a setting sub on/off which controls the amp on or off basically. Lastly check all connections to the amp etc

Hope that helps keep us updated

well i no that the remote is connected properly because when it is connected a red light turns on on the amp. I will try testing yhe amp in a mates car 2morrow but i tried another amp in my car that definatly works because it just came out of my mates car.

So that means its either the head unit or the power wire. I will buy a new power wire tomorrow and try that. but as i said before the instruction manual for my HU is utter crap it doesnt even mention subs or preouts and i canb't find anything on the internet on them. I might send them an email and ask them about it tmorrow.

Thanks alot for the help mate ill tell you how it goes 2morrow

Not being funny, but have you made sure that the power cable is connected to the positive battery terminal?

yeh i checked that n all. There is no fuse on the amp that i can find the leads that came with it had a cylinder fuse on it som i used that

Im gonna try grounding it to the neg battery terminal and see if that helps later i just need to find a wire long enough now ;)

Apparently the red light on the amp means power according to the little instrucyion manual but when the power isnt connected its still on. The remote makes the power light come on ?!?!?!?

Still no luck with anything i connected the earth to the neg battery and still no luck. Might have to take it to a pro and see whe they say

Don't want to do that though cuz im skint :bang:

Very bizzarre mate!! I guess its getting power from the remote wire if the light stays on. Have you tried wiring up the amp to somebody elses car yet???

This what I'd do next. I reckon the amp's shot.

all i get is the red light, ive cheacked everything possible now startin to think the amps gone
