Hi, I have a 2002 (52 Reg) Punto Sporting and I can't work out if it has air conditioning or not... How can I check?

I have Googled it with no help. At this time of year just turning the dials down and seeing what happens won't make any difference either way, but I'm going to change the drive belt so I need to know which belt to buy.

Thanks!
Steve

P.S. Sorry for the stupid question, I just can't find any clues.

If your car has air con then there will be a button with a snowflake on somewhere among the heater controls (y)

Thanks, I suspected it didn't have it but I just wanted to check there wasn't some strange way of turning it on I missed.

no button as such on the mk2 / mk2b punto's

The sporting 16v usually do have aircon as standard - unless they had it removed

There speed control for the fans will have little "light" and snowflake on it
you need to pull this out gently IIRC to activate aircon
it might be push cant remember - never had ac

Non aircon's look similar but no dimple in the middle or snowflake symbol

Thanks, just went for another look and no dimple or snowflake unfortunately.

Doesn't look like I've got air con unless the knobs been changed at some point. Strange considering someone paid extra for the sporting model but didn't bother with air con. Oh well, I only paid £500 for the car and it's in pretty good condition for its age so I'm not too disappointed.

AndyRKett is indeed correct....you push it in and an amber light will glow.

It's easy to miss though as I didn't know mine had it when I bought the car.

It was only the helpful people on this forum that diagnosed what a broken pipe I noticed under the bonnet was used for, when I realised!

Apparently the broken pipe is a common occurrence. I had mine replaced with the redesigned version.

Hi guys, my fiat has the same air control as the picture but my AC doesn't work. I look for the air filter compartment and its just one part. Doesn't have screws or something to open it. What that means? I have the air control but no AC? Tks

If you have a snowflake and central dimple

Look for silvery: white pipes in front of engine.. these carry the refrigerant ;)

Its possible ( likely..) that your system is low in refrigerant

A pressure or vacuum test it advised to ensure the system has no leaks :)

My punto is the 1.9 jtd elx van. Like I said, my air controller is the same as the picture above, so it has the snow flake and the light in the middle.
About the pipes, I've seen 2 on left side behind the engine and I have 2 fans, i think one of them works with the air compressor. Maybe the problem is just gas but I'll leave that for the technician.
But about the cabin air filter, I can't find it. The compartment isn't the same as the others mk2. Any one knows about it?

In the UK no Punto van will have aircon, however I see you are in Portugal so your climate is quite a bit warmer than here.

Honestly if you say you have the controls above then its reasonable to think you probably have got aircon.

If it doesn't work the next step would be to take it to an aircon specialist or garage to have it looked at.

Walk up to the car and shout...

"Back in black!"

...and if the car shouts back...

"I hit the sack".

...then you have AC or DC I can't remember which. :slayer:

Hi :)

My Marea cars had the pollen :cabin filter in the black panel below the windscreen

Remove the wipers ;)

Or look on ePER to see where it thinks the filter should be :)
