friend of mine got a diesel fabia vrs , and got a straight through pipe on it and welded his tip back on... is this okay to do? also the cheapest way i believe? on a mjet?

Not sure what you mean by 'okay to do'. A straight through pipe would mean it's decatted as well which is illegal, and it will be very loud. The laws on exhaust noise are sketchy but all depends on the mood of the police officer.

However, if it was around 2.5" in diameter it would be best. You could just weld your current tip back on, or you could weld on a backbox or another tip.

i have no idea to be honest mate..

yes his fabia is stupidly loud but i want some noise , so im dunno what to do (n)

I dont think they are that loud even when running a straight through from the the turbo back.

Technically would be illegal with running not cats but the odds of you getting done for it are slim and none.

If you just want a bit of grunt from the exhaust, just cut the backbox out and weld a piece of straight pipe in its place.

hello

first off cutting off the back box and put a bit of pipe with a tip on does not increase the volume of the exhaust at all!!... believe i have tried this

because of the nature of the mjet you have a 2nd cat and silencer underneath the car near to the rear, depending on year you may have a dpf!

so to get noise you need to remove everything from the 2nd cat back, this would mean cutting the exhaust removing :

2nd cat
silencer
Rear back box

and replacing with a straight pipe from the second cat onwards.. with a tip on the end if you want it really loud i think a new manifold without a cat would be needed

this mod should put out a few more ponies but as been mentioned it is illegal as your removing the Cat only problems would be MOT time :)

hope this helps ( im maybe looking to do it soon ) :D

ive removed the cat in my downpipe with the decat pipe from protoxide, feels alot less restrictive and exhasut note is a little louder, should be fine mot time as the 2nd main cat underneath is still fitted. im gonna remove centre box and backbox and have a tip welded on end, so it will be straight thru apart from the onemain cat underneath.

Yh true ^^

Although the down pipe is a little pricy, i think if your after a cheap mod then removing cat underneath, middle silencer and backbox with straight pipe and tip is the way to go

just make sure Mot time is not round the corner otherwise im pretty sure they would fail it with the down pipe im pretty sure you would be fine

The downpipe is only around €90. I doubt you would fail an mot even with both cats removed.

Diesels usually pass emissions even without cats. But on the off chance it did fail, its not exactly hard to find a dodgy mot station lol.

Where have you seen a decat downpipe for that price?? Matt said he paid £210 for it from italy
And its new 2012 Mot regulations, if your car had a cat then it needs to be there for the MOT, might get away with a decat down pipe but not gunna get away with no cats underneath

That has always been the law. Just most places don't bother with it as long as emissions aren't a major issue.

I will dig it out now.

Edit: Scara73 sell the downpipe for €130. So approx £110.

i fitted custom 4-2-1 headers, high flow cat and 2" midpipe to my Novitec muffler. sound is a very nice throaty purr and not too loud at all. de-cat will be very loud i imagine.

lost some of the low end torque and engine braking but the car really feels much more relaxed in the mid-high range.

mine is a 1.4 8v.

turbo cars react very differently to n/a cars when it comes to exhaust silencing, take off the cat on an n/a car and your ears will bleed but take the cat off a turbo car it wont make that much difference. The turbo itself silences the exhaust more than a muffler anyway. Thats why i and many others can get away with a single tiny silencer and nothing else and it not be that loud

The law has always been more emission based.
Now there is a specific check that if a cat was fitted when the car was new, one still has to be fitted, irrespective of the age of the car (so cars with cats before they legally had to be fitted, now have to have them).

The 2012 regulations apply the same check to airbags too, so it's the end for Momo steering wheels and aftermarket bucket seats unless you can get them with airbags in!

i might have a decat and muffler section done and then chop off the back box and have some pipe and a tip welded on... sound like a plan?

Remember its a diesel!!

Maybe so, but I doubt many MOT places will care on a diesel.

Damn.

Looks like I'm keeping my cat then! At the moment I do 50 motorway miles per day so DPF isn't an issue. However I'm going back to Uni in Sept and will only be doing 3/4 mile town trips every other day or so. I fear this will be an issue for the DPF as it won't get hot enough / I won't go far/fast enough, so am using this as an excuse to consider getting a new exhaust system, removing the DPF. Been quoted under £300 for a full system, what do people think? Is it worth it?
