Hi Guys,

Shorty's other half here, we've got a problem with our 1.6 petrol stilo.

Last night, we were driving home and suddenly the engine lost power and the revs dropped to about 800rpm. Coasted to a place to stop, engine was seriously labouring! If the throttle wass pressed the revs would drop to almost stalling.

Turned the engine off, and let it rest for about two minutes. Re-started and still had the same problem, the starter need to be engaged for about twice as long as normal to get it to fire.

At this point we gave up, got out and walked the 3 miles home! Picked up my Subaru and went to pick the Stilo up and tow it home!

We tried starting the Stilo before we towed it, and it started, so we let it idle in neutral so we had power steering and brake servos, not forgetting the lights as well! Towed it home and stuck it at the top of the drive to let it rust for a while!

I had a quick look at it today and now it won't even start! It turns over, and fuel pump primes. It occasionally sparks but never enough to run.

So any thoughts?

My thoughts are that the ECU isn't letting the engine run. I'm guessing there are a load of sensors that would stop the engine from running? So I might start by having a look at the crank position sensor? However, what confusses me is that it does sometimes spark whil I crank it!

I am pretty fed up a confused by it all now!

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Lanky.)

have a look at coils and charge the battery before you start looking at other things.. if you've an EOBD scanner - check any logged error codes.. if you haven’t got one.. time to invest 15 odd squid (have a look at the things you'd be able to do on www.fiatecuscan.net!) but, if you are asking for an uneducated guess.. i'd say give your throttle body a very good clean (there is a guide) and recharge the battery overnight.. beyond that.. need the codes!

The engine defo isn't flooded, and the battery is defo charged.

Time to invest in a OBDII connection! Any reccommendations of where to get one from?

Cheers

Lanky
