Recently aquired a 1.9 JTD 3 door dynamic 04, metallic black, 16,300 miles for £7250.

Is this good?

Also looking at loads of reviews for the Stilo there are many contradictions to standard kit. Traction control and 6 airbags being 2 of them!

As far as I can see no TC and no idea how many airbags :-(

BTW has a new shape Astra for a month, very lovely inside but crap to drive.
Also had diesel Focus for 3 years.

I can honestly say the Stilo is quicker, quieter, and feels far more solid and better made!

Would be very grateful for any help on the specs.

Cheers......................

You should have a button on the console marked ASR (lights when de-activated).

The first thing to look for if you've just bought a stilo is the 3rd stalk on the column. If you have then you've got cruise control - and maybe even radar controlled!!

No ASR button that doesn't stop loads of reviews saying it has TC as standard though!

No 3rd stalk, damn....

As far as i was aware all Stilo's came with 6 airbags as standard, and i thought they all had the ASR traction control thing (dont worry if you havent got the button, your not missing much, personally i think the ASR thing is sh*te!)

No ASR then, thanks for the info much appreciated.

Would a remap of my engine substanially reduce its life?

Also it something goes wrong I assume it's me who pays?

Hope you don't mind all the questions but I have spoken to a FIAT dealer and quite frankly if the guy could find his A*se with both hands I'd be surprised.....

It did come with ASR/ Cruise control & full sunroof
@bozzy,

Sounds like you got very lucky with yours - picking up at least three options over standard. ;)

Did you have to search quite a while to find it and did you get the radar option on cruise control?

Was radar control ever launched in this country?

As for a remap, define substantially reduced life? If you intend to thrash the nuts off the car ALL the time, whether remapped OR not, this will impinge on the potential life expectancy!

Go remap (y)

Hmm......that was on my wish list originally - good thing I'm still not waiting for one to turn up on a forecourt somewhere!

What's the story on headlight washers? When I first got mine, I convinced myself for several days that only the off-side washer had been fitted
.........right up until I removed the cover and discovered the front towing hook access point!!! :bang:

...was that when it broke down for the FIRST time :p
Not happened yet :)

I had the brainwave  when I noticed the towing hook cover at the rear. Thought "There must be one on the front too?" - and that's when the penny dropped!

I know it sounds really dumb but you must admit the description, in the manual, of the headlight washer matches the look of the front towing cover exactly!

Evidence is starting to appear that remapped cars are in for long-term trouble. Certain manufacturers seem to be affected more than others, but I would treat with caution (I am not aware of Fiat's being a specific problem though). As you will no doubt be aware, you are reducing the manufacturers 'safety margin' by remapping a car, often you don't need this safety margin, but on a hot day in traffic the cooling system will be working harder on an engine that has been used for hard driving shortly before. I'm not saying don't do it, but just be careful. Simply pumping more fuel and air in to an engine with no modification to the cooling system is foolhardy at best and stupid at worst. The JTD can get 170bhp, up from 115bhp (I think). If Fiat felt they needed a different engine (m-jet 16v) to get 150bhp rather than 'tweaking' the boost, I don't see how anyone else thinks they know better.

Same with the A2's; a re-map from 75bhp to 115bhp is possible but Audi already do a 90bhp model that has a substantially changed turbo, intercooler and cooling system. They wouldn't do that if they thought the standard set-up could take 115bhp. They know it can't, long term.

I spoke to Nigel at Angel a few weeks back regarding tuning, he explained that the remap does not affect the idling control or tune at idle, therefore any cooling the system does need would be sufficient as nothing changes during idle and any engine that is driven hard would tend to need cooling when in traffic, also because diesels are more thermally efficient, overheating issues are not a problem because less heat goes into the body of the engine anyway.
