Stilo or Punto ???

Stilo or Punto ???

Ah right, that would explain it, I know Stilo's are around 1250-1400kg curb depending upon the model and variant.

Its a long shot, but think GP is 1050-1200kg iirc but I could be wrong.

That sounds right, my old 1.2 was just over a ton if I remember correctly, diesels obviously much heavier. Why can I see my fiat forum app and yet not be able to use my browser due to rubbish signal?

If my work didn't breed assistance dog puppies I would want for a new phone mast to be built! Currently getting bitten to death by 4 week olds.

Can someone look for curb weights? Im trying but phone data signal is horrific. They are more accurate but gross is a good indication of measuring what a vehicle can handle in terms of load etc...

Found a good website with stats of most cars. Not sure how accurate but it all seems pretty fair.

Screenshot didn't catch the model on the page but obviously the Stilo is 2.4 and GP 1.9

So in conclusion, it appears the Stilo is 70kg heavier, 40hp more powerful, twice as fuel-hungry, slightly less torquay, over twice the pollution and older.

Hmmm that didn't help me at all... lol

Don't forget power delivery though! I can't comment on a 2.4 Stilo but generally petrols are the more entertaining both with power band and noise. However, I do like a bit of a diesel wallop when it hits the turbo.

But looking at those figures it does look a clear cut victory for the punto. Does NZ have the abarth Gp? More economical than your stilo, amazing to look at and a decently powered petrol engine. Maybe above budget though.

The Abarth GP is the only reason I was looking at GPs in the first place, but sadly there are none that I have found in NZ and they're very costly to import.

Another reason I'm now considering the GP JTD is because I can simply chip it to gain the extra power... a friend pointed this website out to me yesterday.

Haha I'd definitely have gender issues driving an MR2. I might end up in an embarrassing situation like this! http://jalopnik.com/5152937/top-scandal-top-gear-live-using-mr2+based-fake-ferrari-360-spiders

The only way you'll ever get a Stilo or a Punto anywhere near as manly is to fit a Coupe turbo engine. And then you'll have to find a way of persuading it round corners. Cheaper to buy an Integrale...............

Why would you want to clothe an MR2 in faux Ferrari when it holds up remarkably well against the real thing?

Anyway if I was in the market for a Japanese car I'd be writing in a completely different forum!

Choosing a car on the basis of nationality is rather like choosing a girlfriend on the basis of colour of nail varnish.

Sorry buddy but I couldn't disagree more. I can't imagine anything worse than owning an MR2 (I hope this doesn't hurt your feelings as you seem quite touchy about it all). I've had multiple Toyotas over the years and although they have their good points they're definitely nothing to get excited about. Also, I'm not choosing a car based on nationality as you stated, I've already chosen the car based on it's looks and I'm discussing it on a FIAT FORUM. As if that wasn't enough of a clue...

You might note that NZ is considerably closer to Japan than England and we have primarily Japanese brands on the roads. This just means I'm not interested in buying a car I see passing by every 5 minutes, I'd rather get something a little less common like a Fiat or Alpha.

I think our perspectives are a little flipped because when I was in England everone thought BMWs were trashy and that WRXs were exotic cars. Its very much the opposite here and I think its all about the market and location.

I'm very fond indeed of my MR2, but that's on the basis of what it's capable of, of how it is to drive. Hopefully the vids go some way toward substantiating that to an unbeliever. And I also like my Volvo T5 and my Cinqs. I didn't buy any of them to make a statement: in this part of the world (and at this time) they're relatively cheap (absurdly cheap in the case of the MR2, but then, they're neither the cheapest or easiest car to work on). I see far more MR2s than Stilos.

And, if you cast your mind back, it was Japanese cars, mainly Toyotas of an era long before the MR2, which pretty much destroyed the British car industry. I ought to hate them. ;)

The poor old Stilo was let down badly by FIAT (even Schumaker complained about it). It desperately needed the 20v Coupe turbo engine (enlarged to 2.4 litres, if you like), but the powers that be never saw it. You have it in your power to correct matters (but you'll still get castrated by a half decent MR2 turbo).
