Tuning Stilo JTD de cat question

Just a thought here, couldn't you be running the risk of frying your turbo with it working faster and earlier in the rev range with a re-map and a de-cat?

Since you appear to be an......"enthusiastic tuner" shall we say lol, would it not be a prudent measure to look into increasing the oil flow or pressure (perhaps both) to the turbo's bearing feed?

I am by no means an expert in modding cars from factory, but if I am going to mod something I try to look at it from all angles to ensure I'm not going to wear something out quicker by having it exceed it's tolerences.

Just a thought anyways. Toodle-pip.

Rattystilo, do you have access to fes? If so can you log your desired boost and actual boost pressure and also vnt%(boost solenoid).to see if it is still in control or may suffer from boost creep.my 16v does boost creep due to decat, but has slightly different turbo and better flowing head(16v)also fmic.
Log in 4th or 5th foot flat down from 1500 revs up to safe top end.
I get down to 20% vnt and overboost up to 5 psi.

no i dont have access to fes. My boost guage shows about 24psi on spool up settling to 21psi

Oi Nutter, if the turbo goes the turbo goes. Part of it. I do always let the engine idle for a couple of minutes before turning it off. The turbo is working harder for longer but engine temp is midway and oil temp is about 82 deg.
