Do Stilo front coil springs have to be fitted a certain way up?

I bought new front springs from Fiat for my 2003 jtd MultiWagon and noticed that the last coil on each end is a different diameter. One end is 112mm, the other is 103mm.

The car had new pattern springs fitted about 9 months ago just before I bought it but one has been fitted one way up and the other, the opposite way. The top and bottom mounting rubbers have now moulded to those springs so I can't tell from the rubbers, which way up the springs should go.

The new springs have the grading marks (2 yellow and 1 green dot) on one end. Does anyone know if perhaps these marks should be at the top or bottom?

The new Fiat springs free length is 40mm longer than the pattern springs so I'm hoping this is going to raise the front of the car away from the speed bumps. Re. this previous post;

Hmmm... pretty sure they should be fitted the same way up AND the right way up as the spring rates are progressive, i.e. more resistance with further compression. You may have a dodgy handling car there fella.

I had the same problem when having one spring sorted on my stilo the garage fitted it the wrong way up..the coloured marks should go towards the bottom..

With the old pattern part springs on the car and under load, the coils on one spring were compressed closer together at the top. The other side of the car they were closer together at the bottom so there was obviously something wrong. The handling was OK though, I'm only replacing them because I want the front of the car raised.

I've tried the new springs both ways up in the mountings and they seem to fit slightly better with the smaller diameter at the bottom which happens to be the end with the marks so I think you've confirmed it for me. Strange there's no mention of fitting them the correct way up in eLearn though.
