Springs will be a Mo-Fo. Get the longest (seriously) spring compressors you can find.

Then buy a second pair, and a pair of safety glasses too. You will be amazed how long the springs are, compared to the damper rod.

I'd go further and say don't even try yourself. Take the strut to a garage with a hydraulic compressor. Worth every penny...

The mechanical bits are very straightforward , it's the electrical bits and warning lights that will give you sleepless nights

Thought I would bring things up to date on what's been happening over the past couple of months.
Firstly I picked the wrap for the car and tried it out on the bonnet. All was going well until good old Fiat's lacguer stuck to the wrap instead of the car.

After. You can just see where it lifted at the bottom right. It will need to be done again.

I did the hatch later.

Most of the interior is out

The front and rear bumpers are off for wrapping

And I've started to inlay wrap for the front bumper

I'm also changing the grills to carbon look.

New 35 mm lower springs, new damper, wishbones, drop links, discs, pads etc.

And finally car on the lift to remove all mechanics.

I decided to pull the engine and gearbox out as one, quicker to do and it going to make things easier changing clutch and timing belt etc.

With it all out I couldn't pass up the opportunity to clean everything.

Just the radiator and panel to clean and we are up to date.

Not going to go with the roof change for now but might look at an electric Webasto long term.

So finally got the car almost finished. Got stuck into the wrap.

And just kept going until it was finished.

Painted the wheels matte Grey.

Modified the rear bumper to accept the twin tail pipe I wanted.

Fitted the badges back on.

The put the interior back in and cleaned it as it was pretty bad. Then finally sorted out the door panels as they where badly scuffed.

So what's left to do? fit spacers to the wheels to bring them out to the arch (looking like 20mm rear and 10mm front) and get the guy with the computer to come round and code the key back into the car after it lost its signal from sitting about so long.

After giving it a lot of thought I came up with the bright idea of using the grey metallic rubber paint spray I had sitting about the garage for ages. That way when it gets scuffed looking again I can just peel it off and spray it again. The good bit was it looks pretty original.

Is it resilient ?, as some stuff like this goes on and looks good for a few months, but then peels off and makes it look scabby ?
