has anybody found some good stuff as most of my dash buttons are sticky, tried soapy water and wd40,thanks,John

I tagged them in a link with lots of fixes..

Annoyingly.. I seem to have lost the ability to "cut and paste" links 🤨

But great info from the
Stilo Section

I recall the outer door handles getting weirdly marked on my Marea too 🤢
Weren’t they rubber door handles that used to crack and then fall apart? I remember a friend having them on a brava or maybe it was a bravo I forget now, but he was moaning about the state of the door handles circa 2006

There is a product we use in Italy that you can buy online from Italian uk shops it called “Chante clair sgrassatore”. You can spray it on a microfiber cloth and it will melt the rubber easily. The buttons will thank you look kind of white, but with a pencil rubber and a bit of elbow grease they come good as new. See pics attached of the product and before and after.

The photo of the reassembled panel looks great. Very nice job! (y) It's interesting to see that the illuminated symbols are unaffected. Somebody once told me that hte "rubber" coating (probably Santoprene) is clear, but Ididn't believe them. Perhaps it's true though....

My buttons and panel are in a really sticky state. I really need to do something about it - will have a look for the product you suggested. Even the brand new parts that I've got safely stored away in their original packaging in a cool, dark cupboard have gone sticky. It seems there's no way to stop it happening.

Nice work on the refurb above.

talcum powder is a short term fix I seem to remember, but can you buy grey / black ?

I just checked and my MK1s degunked buttons and painted trim look good after 7 years.
Cars been sat a while though.
meths or acetone free nail varnish stuff on buttons was what I found to work according to thread below.
Iso Propyl alcohol is likely good and is gentle on plastics too.

That was 7 years ago !!!

I had limited time 7 years ago and gave her a quick and dirty clean up and spray on plastics and it has held up well.
The Autotek plastic paint has worked well.

Any parts that you can remove and put in the dishwasher, that works, after it comes out it has like a residue, but i buffed it with a nylon brush (eg. toothbrush) and it came up lovely.
I also found that cleaning the fixed bits (buttons because I couldn't be bothered with taking the dash apart) with wonder wipes did a good job of removing the coating, whatever is in the wonder wipes eats into it. The only thing to be aware of is that the DPF letters are printed on top of the coating, and came off (either that, or they were under the coating but came off at the same time). Also, don't clean your indicator/light stalks with wonder wipes, cos it will also wipe away the markings on those if you do it enough!
