Ask them to collect/deliver your car next time at your work,or book a courtesy car.
Works for me - they actually drop a courtesy car off to my house, then take my car in for servicing, or whatever.

If the work over-runs, I still have the courtesy car (y)

Exactly...obviously there are times when a car isn't available & often you have to book a week in advance unless your a good customer like yourself;)

Guys is this Recall an Issue? Its not on the VOSA Website?
My cars VIN starts (last 6 digits 125***) so presume needs the recall applying? I feel a dealer call coming on..............
Was this a factory offical recall? If so does that mean FIAT dealers are obliged to sort FOC? My car does make a metalic 'rattle' on full right hand lock?!!!

Yes it is, I just looked

Reference : R/2005/043
Manufacturer Ref :
Make: FIAT
Model : STILO 1.8 AND ABARTH 2.4
Launch Date : 11/07/2005
Numbers Involved : 3043
Build Start Date : 01/01/2002
Build End Date : 01/12/2003

Details

Concern : POSSIBLE LOSS OF STEERING
Description : Excess play between steering rack and pinion leading to noise and possible loss of steering when parking.
Remedial Action : Recalled vehicles will have the steering pinion bearing preload adjusted, or the steering rack assembly will be replaced as necessary
Vehicle Id : ZFA19200000000000 to ZFA19200000436250
ZFA19200000000000 to ZFA19200000436250

I had a letter come direct from FIAT, although my dealership had already done the work a few months beforehand :)

Morritt, I can sympathise with you....

Just checked the VOSA website myself - and apparently my Abarth should have been checked for all three too! Having recently bought it, and there being no specific stamps other than for regular servicing, I havn't got a clue if it's been done. It's out of warranty now too. My VIN's last six digits are (no jokes please) 0666**.
Which as far as I can count falls neatly betwen 000000 and 436250. What confuses me is that the VOSA site states build dates for one fix (for VINs ZFA19200000056008 and ZFA19200000117558) as between 1/12/2001 and 31/3/2002. My car was first registered at the end of March 2003 - could it really have sat unregistered for a year?

So, the next question - will a Fiat dealer happily (or unhappily, I don't care) check that these have been done without me having to shell out? Or would it be worth 'mentioning' it while having them look at one or two of my electrical faults? The parking sensors are the latest to pack up...

Ben

It seems that the dealers don't make a habit of stamping the book by default - a pity really.

I would go in and ask - especially if you have other things to check - they should be able to tell whether all the recalls have been done :)

"Remedial Action : Recalled vehicles will have the steering pinion bearing preload adjusted, or the steering rack assembly will be replaced as necessary"

Left my Abarth in last Friday to get this looked at among other things which I will mention on separate threads.

First the Fiat dealer tells me that I need a new steering rack:confused:

So, I remembered you guys mentioning a recall and printed out the vosa sheet and brought it up to the dealer, because they denied that there was any recall. Left it with them and asked for the work to be done either way. Wonder will they do it as they should or will I have to pay? 301euro for the rack + vat + labour(n) . But it has to be done really as the steering has to be constantly corrected while driving say on the motorway.

Cheers for any imput.

Pity most customers dont have/bring their books with them:p

Srvben...fiat issue letters & dealer will do the work, first step after recieving letter (or if info is on 'sigi') is to test if the rack requires adjustment or renewing or no further action.

So T, iyo because I did not have the car from new and I did not get a letter, would I have to get one to have the work done FOC? Could this be got from a countries Fiat distributors?

Go to nearest dealer and ask if they can check via a SIGI printout. You can see for yourself then.
Have you told the ISR the car is in your name/address otherwise if a letter was sent out it has gone astray & no it doesn't matter you didn't get it from new.

T, I'll try all this, thanks. Whats SIGI btw?

Car is in my name but I doubt that we have a system where susequent owners are notified of recalls. The Irish way!

Printout of vehicle details (build date, paint codes etc) & also indicates if any recalls are outstanding.

My book is in the car 100% of the time :nutter: :p

One of the very few....most folk would rather fill their gloveboxes/side pockets with CD's/sweets(cheers:D )/insurance/mot/log book documents(not very clever!)/pieces of plastic trim...no one knows where they go/screws in a plastic bag ment for number plates/pens(none work)/phone chargers/matchbox full of hash/empty water bottle etc:rolleyes:

Twice now I have had the dealership phone me up, saying they can't find the book - twice now I have hunted high and low around the house, thinking 'I am sure it is in the car' - twice now I have turned up at the dealership, got my keys, gone back to the car and found my book in the underseat drawer, in a large ORANGE folder with FIAT on the front....:p

Oh that big orange thing....thought that was a inflatable life raft:D

you smoked the weed you found before you realised you were supposed to be looking for the log book?
