Technical Steering recall- Campaign 4968 on 1.8 and 2.4 variants

Hello, fellow Fiat owners :)

Writing from Denmark, owning an Abarth.

Funny, when i first got my car, there was this squeezing sound from the steering, specially on low speed manoeuvres. And sometimes it would feel like no servo steering for a split second.
My dealer checked it at the time beeing, and found nothing wrong.

And now this recall.

Checked with my dealer after reading this topic, and my car is in the recall range. Going to get it fixed soon.

Funny though, how things work out sometimes :)

Superb forum by the way, with a lot of people willing to help out ;)

Am i just lucky or has the dealer not done the checks right, i only ask because i seem to be the only recall that hasnt needed any work done

Chassis number in the recall numbers, double checked with another dealer, bought second hand, but everything swapped over into my name, second dealer called the car up on computer and told me when the date i took car to first dealer, so they wouln'dt look at it under the recall as its already been done, maybe there is no problem on mine, but i seem to be the only one.

Took my Abarth in for minor trim fix and low and behold they tell me about the recall, at this time they slapped dangerous do not drive sticker on the windscreen, this would be fine but i have only had the car 3 weeks. That was 2 weeks ago  have a punto to run about in but dealer will not say how long until they can get a steering rack. The way its looking they are going to have the car longer than i have been running it for
Anybody else waiting for a long time for the parts.

cheers andy

Cant understand the delay, we have racks in stock. The reason that the sign is on the car is that during the inspection procedure the rack preload is checked, if this is incorrect by a significant amount then the rack is replaced. But until the rack is replaced the dealer cant really let you use the vehicle as it is not in the same condition as when you brought it in.

Mine has been done apparently, but it doesn't seem as good on my mum's 1.6. The steering motor feels awful at times during parking manouvers, like it doesn't fully engage - it'll be light then go stiff all of a sudden (oooh err! :D)

Mines in for a new rack on Monday morning at Stoneacres in Worksop providing the parts arrive on time or they've remembered to order them. Took them 3 attempts to get a step trim recently so my confidence ain't high.

The mechanic who looked at it was going to slap a 'do not drive - dangerous' notice on it but then changed his mind when we said we'd just done over a 1000 miles that week (Devon n Back) without any problems....and some of you will know just how fun it can be driving on those narrow country roads lol :D

Bit annoyed that I've got to fork out for a loan car when FIAT have recalled it. :(

Finally got the steering sorted last friday, what a difference its made.
Sooooo much more responsive, used to be able to turn steering wheel a good bit before the car started turning. :D

Hi.

I've emailed my dealer (JCS Kegworth) and asked for advice. They've read my email but not yet replied. Will keep the forum updated when / if I get a response.

Cheers,sbaddison

I am the new owner of your old Stilo 1.8 - I'm very pleased with it and the steering seems OK. Did you ever get a rely from JCS?

Hi Guys

How long does it take for Fiat to recall these Vehicles? I have just had a look on the VOSA website and this recall was dated 11/7/05 we are in September now.... how many of you have had your car recalled?

My Vehicle falls between these chassis numbers and i have had no recall letter, yet again bad customer service on Fiat's part yet again :bang:

I had a letter arrive, by registered post, a few weeks back BUT my car had already ad the recall work done, because I approached my dealership FIRST....

Hi Stu

Was every thing ok with yours after the dealer had returned it?

As the dealers were i live are not very good when it comes to replacing parts etc. :bang:

Hi

Yes, the car is fine - my dealerships knows me very well, and tends to look after me in general - the joys of owning two FIATs ;), I am always down there :D

I too had this recall letter - got checked whilst in being serviced - all OK !

But then again are they just being lazy and tight - like so many other little things that the local Fiat Stealership seem to oversee.
