anyone know how to disengage steering lock on Marea Weekend 1.9 TD, R reg?

My steering lock has ceased up and for now my Mechanic has removed the Ignition Barrel which the Steering lock is part of. The unit is sealed so it appears to be unrepairable.
I start the car by placeing the key on the Signal Pickup Cable and then turning the plastic ignition switch.
At the momemt Fiat want £200.00 plus for a replacement (Got to buy a complete lock set).
Anyone know of a cheaper option.

The only other option is a scrapyard, but make sure you get all the keys otherwise you are going to end up spending almost as much again.
