Technical Steering column/bar/joins problem

Hi, I have really annoying noise coming from steering area bellow the volant. Its happening when I drive dirt road on asphalt there is nearly no sound. It does even I drive straight and it sounds as metal-metal rattling sound.

On the picture probable area of the problem as we did not put apart the steering panel.

Anyone know the good way how to fix it? Thank you

I had similar issue in my mk2b
A tiny tiny play in one of the ups caused a horrible knocking noise... I lived with it for 2 years... but when I managed to get a decent 2nd hand unit I was so much better

I did a guide it's in the mk2 2b section
It's a fairly easy swap just takes about 30mins

Note though
There is like 3 - 4 different pitches/teeth setup
Ensure u have same from donor unit

see if theres any play as you look while friend turns steery wheel a little from side to side
pay particular attention to lower coupling where the bolt fastens to the steering rack
i found a ford ka which is a fiat 500 with this bolt missing a few weeks back ,could have been catastrophic if the downshaft slid up over time
with regards changing this shaft if play found then i believe there are only two types ie ones for all mk2 punto with fiat badge in bonnet then the later type with badge in bonnet in the grille
for this thread they are NOT interchangeable for the case here
