Anyone had similar problem please?
Twice recently my Old V reg, (1.6 Petrol) multipla wouldn't start. the engine turns over but no sign of life. I flattened one battery, used jump leads and it started straight away. I got a brand new battery and it was fine for 3 days. Then same problem again. Previously the Coded key light on the ignition sometimes failed to go out and when it did that the car wouldnt start but the engine turned over. Well its just like that but the coded key light is going out as it should.
After about 15 minutes and a few kicks to the rear wheel it started ok.
It now starts fine - first time every time. But I'm sure it will happen again. Seems like some electronic problem rather than mechanical.

The AA man (who attended the second time ) had no idea, but by then the car had started.

Hunting around this site I'd say my problem might be related to the key code. Suggestions include using the red key.. I don't have one! Not sure It was ever supplied, so I can't try that.
Anyone know how to get a spare/new key without the knowing the key code?, (I don't have that either!)
I'd settle for the keycode recognition by passing.. anyone know if that can be easily done?

Thanks for any help or suggestions
Ian

if your genuine key has a number 2 on the silver blade,it will not have a red key.If you have a number 2 , you can order a key throu fiat and they will get the needed codes for starting, remote, and alarm if needed.........
if it has no number, you should have a red key, cheap option is to buy a cloned key from key cutter, but this wont help if the non starting is because the key code light is on...............

Many thanks that helps.. I have a key with Number 2 on.
Cheers

Hi Poskers,

how did you get on with your starting problem?

i suspect i'm having similar issues.

to be honest , i'd be happy to have no immobiliser, i live in a pretty remote and quite bit of Scotland so car theft is not a major issue, cars not starting is.

Same problem here :bang: , 1.6 multipla 1999. Is there solution to this?

Know the feeling well! We also live in Scotland and have taken the car to the garage. They suspect fault with immobiliser but can't help any further. Ours is a JTD 1.9 (2002) and I could go on all day and night about the other problems and countless parts that have been replaced.
Does anyone have any other (cheap) ideas or the car is to go!

If its a intermittent fault then this can be akward to diagnose & reproduce the fault, however if I suspected the code box was at fault i'd change it (£75) but I would still look elsewhere first, you got to cover the basics first.
