That's a defeatist attitude!

If it's a proper full boot build take your spare wheel out first, if you can't get to it you might as well shed the weight.

this is not a pop at you personally, more a generic gripe.

What is the purpose of a boot build.

A car is NOT a good place to listen to music. The acoustics are all wrong, the road/engine noise interfers with any delicate sounds you "might" produce. Added to that is the fact that in most boot builds the speakers point backward, out of the hatch???

Why bother to spend the time, money and agro to 1 lose boot space
2 make loud noise (not music....noise)
3 send yourself deaf
4 Lose the spare tyre

Peeps spend ££££ on audio stuff, spend weeks doing boot builds and then play crappy compressed MP3s through it.

I REALLY don't get it. (mabe I'm too old)

If its for shows/cruises etc, why not take a DECENT pair of speakers strapped on the back seat and set them up external to the car when you arrive????

help me understand plz :)

"I REALLY don't get it. (mabe I'm too old)"

you got it pal

well..my car is somewhere where i can get away, and i love my music, so i spend a lot of time listening to my music in my car. as for sepnding a lot of money. im not planning to, everything im getting im picking up cheap. and as for the actual build its a little project for me to concentrate on and do in my spare time. anyway hope that helps you understand.
cheers, maxim

Some people (like myself) spend a lot of time in their car. Be that driving to and from work, enjoyment etc. Nothing wrong with wanting a really good sound system in their car!

Back on topic - try and keep it as light as possible as it certainly will weigh the car down. However, it also needs to be very sturdy. You wont want rattles here there and everywhere once you turn your tunes on.

re

it does need to be light, i never really thought about it as i was without my car cna dhad kit fitted the same time as having boot build done, but when i took it out the back of my car sat about 2 inches higher than when the build was in!

i did have 2 15 inch subs and the box was inch thick mdf!

its very hard, it needs to be light, but then you need a decent thickness on any sub box etc for sound quality.

i'd say if its your first one stay simple? you can always redo it when your more confident?

"A car is NOT a good place to listen to music. The acoustics are all wrong"

Tell that to the people at IASCA or EMMA....

@ Tom :) ;) do you stil want one of those injectors? hows ur setup at the mo? i have the utopias running active in mine now :) all i can say is breathtaking :)

my reccomendation would be to look out for pikeys trying to rob it all off you.

you cant beat some nice deep bass if youve got the right tunes that is. but i cant see the point in a boot build.

more weight, money and hassel.

but surely you could say the same for people who spend ££££ making their cars go faster?. the speed limit is still the same why have a car that can do 3 times that?

on topic, just make sure the boxes are the right size for the subs and use strong mdf. i have seen about 3 people/chavs (with working in a car shop that sells audio equipment) who have made it from there old wardrobe backs. i.e 3 mill plyboard and they wonder why it soudns absolute arse , its quite amusing really you can see the box moving when teh subs kicks .

dont make it with mdf birch ply is what u want for the best possible sq its about £30 for an 8x4 though.
