Hello,

So am trying to purchase a new starter motor online, but when I put the reg in, it comes up saying compatible with my vehicle but many variants regarding number of teeth etc.

How do I know which one I need for my car and is it easy to tell?

I also ordered a new alternator. What belt brand you recommend to go with it?

If this is causing you problems have you considered buying from a local trade factor. That's where I buy most of my parts and I find prices are usually very competitive with the advantage that if a wrong part is supplied you can return it very quickly - often, in these situations, which I don't find arise very often, I can take the old part with me to ensure the new part is compatible.

What belt brand?! What brand is the alternator you've ordered? Hope it's Denso. For belt, Febi Bilstein is alright.
For your starter motor put your VIN in ePER search bar and search for starter motor. It should give you the results "filtered for your VIN". Or, take yours down and see what that says. Or as Jock mentioned, take it to the local supplier and have them order you a new one.

I just buy whatever my local factor offers me. Often that's a Gates, but I've also had Dayco, Continental, and other big names. I'm happy to take whatever he's selling and it's always been a recognisable big brand name. After all, he's not going to stay in business for long if he starts selling the trade poor quality stuff! I'm aware of Febi and would trust it. I don't think I've ever been offered that brand though?

Yes the alternator I got was a Denso. Will be arriving on Tuesday. I got a very good deal on it via a motor factor on eBay as it's black Friday and got for £105.

I will put my VIN number onto here and see what it comes up with.

Anyone know that the model number is of my old alternator, picture attached. And is the other the Starter Motor? How do I get a product code from that?

Alternator is Denso 70A 51859042.
For the starter motor you need to clean this part to see it. But very careful, watch out you don't wipe the writing. Try with a dry cloth first, see if you can read something afterwards.
I managed to get it. The part number is a Hitachi: 51890631. Think it has 10 teeth, know a good replacement?

So if it's not engine oil, what else could it be from? Gearbox, clutch? Or even coolant, or could it just be water from the scuttle bays?
Can’t be gearbox - that’s over to the right. Doesn’t look like water. I just asked as it looks odd. What’s the problem with the starter? You do seem to be blessed with bad luck and a constant stream of things breaking - which is a very non-normal situation :)

I know. This is the pictures I took today, basically every morning from the last week and every turn on of the engine, there is a squeal noise. Been told it's the starter motor. The old one on the car is a Hitachi probably from new with the car. I will send a video.
