My start-stop system has only ever worked perfectly a handful of times in 2 years of owning it. When I get to a red light, I put it in neutral, foot off the clutch and then the engine goes off, then straight back on again.

This happens even after a long drive, when the engine is warm and there’s no radio on, no city steering, no lights, no blowers, nothing draining lots of power.

Booked in for a battery check at Halfords on Wednesday next week to see if the battery is on its way out.

Anyone’s start-stop work perfectly as I’ve never heard anyone say it does?

Should I fork out for a Start-stop battery if it needs a new one?

Thanks.

The S/S in my wife's 500S works perfectly, every time. My MiTo almost never works despite having a proper battery and always does long trips (90+ miles a day almost all motorway). Ironically, the only time mine does work is after the wife has driven it and even then it usually only works for a day or 2 and then stops again.

Should you get it looked at? Your call, as long as the car is running normally otherwise I'd be inclined to just turn it off if it's not working properly anyway.
