Technical start button

Technical start button

Each to their own, I don't see the point of lowering the Stilo and putting in Eibach this, Supersprint that - for example.

And I'm not a chav, far from it. (Lol, as I'm writing this, a group of chav's have just walked outside my window, stolen some wood batons from the school's fence across the road and are now yielding them like weapons!).

Instead of putting keys in and turning to 'crank' position and releasing when engine fires, you want to put keys in, carefully turn to 'on' and not crank and then press a button to crank the engine and release when it goes.

I did just post about this - on my Stilo, you cannot crank the car with the key. The ignition will turn on, but taking it further does nothing. The point is you are forced to use the Start button.

Well...what can I say....it is a waste of time, but I guess it makes 'the yoof' happy. Now a nice Lancia Integrale with it fitted as factory standard....thats cool:cool: ......a 1.6 Stilo with it stuck somewhere on the dash.....thats just Burberry baseball caps and Citroen Saxos(n)
The point of Eibachs and Supersprint would be to make the car handle better and hopefully go a bit faster....the point of a starter button is??????? I guess its looks.......to impress the teenagers!;)

Oops! That was painful :D

Wasn't directed at anyone I can assure you, just the first two brands to pop into my head.

Alpine - I see your point, but I disagree entirely. Firstly, my Stilo is a 1.8 :p. Secondly, if I'd drilled a hole in the dash and fitted one of those "big red button" ebay kits, I'd 100% agree and mock it along with you. However, this is the original button, covering a hole which most Stilo owners moan about. It can be wired into the brake and clutch pedals if I wanted to, so that it replicates the start procedure as the manual says.

Anyway, for what it cost, I'm happy - I can say that my Stilo is unique, and it's another hole filled!

And yes, my friends do all think it's cool, however most are chav-hating university students and graduates - not Saxo/Corsa driving "barry boys", or whatever colloqualism the "yoof" call them these days!

if the button doesnt switch off the engine then its done for me

two reasons why i want it

1. to easily switch the engine on/off in start/stop traffic
2. to keep the damn electrics on when i switch the engine off
3. the ignition barrel on the stilo is annoying as in if the engine doesnt fire, or you accidently turn the key slightly, you have to turn the key all the way back and start again. how stupid is that.

this is a practical need, no show off, no chav, full stop.

how dare you guys put stilo and chav in the same sentence :p

How the hell do you read all that funny writing ..doa you speaka de lingo ?

If it was fully integrated (like my mates Megane CC - he just gets in with the 'key' transponder in his pocket and presses the start button, and it goes) then I could see the point.

However, this 'Barry boy Saxo' mod is pointless and is laughable in it's (lack of proper) functionality IMO. and that is the point - - this is my opinion.

Where is the hole in the Stilo???? My Abarth is chock full of Sh!te quality buttons with barely a hole in sight...and that includes the cupholders!!!(really, where is the button hole?) As for todays graduates....where do I start....cant read or write as far as I can tell from the ones joining my job these days!! Perhaps a button marked 'START' is needed to help them get their vehicles going!!!:D :D ;) ;)

Lol, and again:

Oz - "then it's done for me" - ?. Oh and yes, it's rather handy if you've stalled (not that I do of course :D), or if the car doesn't fire over and it means you don't have to wait for the Connect Nav+ to reboot itself.

T - well, the reason why I did the wiring elsewhere! Know how sensitive they are as you've described before.

Decks - well, maybe he's a "Barry Boy Chav" who wants a start button but has no idea how to do it. Lol, he's probably a university graduate actually!

Alpine - the cubby hole to the bottom left of the steering wheel. It's quite unmissable.

God, who'd have thought one button could cause so much fuss!

And what a good job the government provides us graduates with people to type for us, god knows I couldn't myself ":D:D;);)"

well if it doesnt switch off the engine, then its not as useful as i would have liked it to be (read why i want it in my previous post)

heck, its always good to have a new toy :p and fill that rather pointless cubby hole

I see . . .

I did look into getting the "STOP" function to work, as well as the stop, and then wiring it so it is fully automated like the Megane (then I read the handbook which says that you have to press the clutch or brake and hold in the button, ala my setup :D) . . . would have been too complicated.

You have to hold either the brake or clutch to prevent the car lurching if it is in gear. Then just press the button once and release, not hold it whilst it cranks and fires.

The Stilo handbook says you have to hold it and release it once it fires up.

Rich, my comments were in relation to Megane. I have no idea what Stilo hand book says, I've never read that part. (y)

Ah yes quite, my brother has done a total of 180,000 miles in company Meganes since november 04. That system is far more "automated" than the FIAT system seems to be, and I mean the Easy Go, not Rich Go system :p
