Hi, i bought some new componant speakers for my punto mk2 a while back but never got around to fitting them. Just wondered if anyone knew if it would be possible to wire up the existing tweeters that are already in the door to the new speakers? I think it would look better and would prefer to do so if its possible :p

Cheers

do you mean the tweeters where the win mirror adjusters are?

they should allready be wired into the speaker wires that run to the back of your headunit

when you say wire them to your new components do you mean the amp your running the components off?

Yeah those tweeters, but im just going to replace the speakers for the time being and use the standard speaker wire to wire it straight in (get an amp when i can afford it :(). But with componants you get a separate tweeter, and i would rather use the standard one tbh.

the standard tweeters will still work if you replace the door speakers with components, if your useing crossovers then you would just have to route a wire from the tweeters to where you have your crossover

i wouldnt bother with crossovers untill you amp it all up though

Ok cheers :D. Crossovers cam with them, but i dont need them unless i amp them?

crossovers are used to direct diffrent frequencys to the correct speaker

imagine a traffic cop directing traffic thats kind of like what the crossovers do

your headunit will have some kind of crossover built in which will deal with what you want

you will need to use them when you are useing an amp or two to power your speakers

Haha ok thanks mate. Im just guessing theres just some wires from the standard tweeters in the doors already?

Upgrading the mids and not changing the tweets defeats the object TBH. If your new components are any good then the new tweeters will sound much warmer and nicer.
You would need the x-over if changing the tweets as the standard car ones have a small capacitor built in to filter the lower frequencies which they wont be able to play.
Also in theory you should use the x-over to filter the high frequencies out from being sent to the woofer.
What you are suggesting go's against every rule of SQ

Ok then so where would you mount the tweeter then? Just cut a hole in the door card? And i should fit the crossover then?
